Mr Negative is a very interesting card that has many strengths but also some weaknesses. So, here’s the definitive Mr Negative deck Marvel Snap build guide!

If you have played Marvel’s Spider-Man on the PS4, PS5, or PC, then you should be quite familiar with this villain. He is the main antagonist for Spidey in the first half of the game. And to say he single-handedly gave Spider-Man a run for his money would still be an understatement. Mr Negative is an incredibly powerful foe and Marvel Snap players were ecstatic to have him join the game. As of the current meta, Mr Negative decks have been running rampant in the scene. So, if you are interested to see how to best utilize him, here’s your definitive Mr Negative deck Marvel Snap build guide!

Mr Negative Card Profile

Mr Negative is an interesting card as it has a Cost of 4 but a power of -1 (yes, very clever!). His ability allows you to swap the Power and Cost of all the cards in your deck, which makes him very effective in certain builds. For instance, White Tiger has a Cost of 5 and a Power of 1. With Mr Negative on the board, White Tiger will then Cost 1 with a Power of 5. In this scenario, not only does White Tiger become a formidable play, but her ability to summon an 8-Power Tiger still remains intact. This can be a game changer in decks built around Mr Negative’s ability.

The Best Mr Negative Marvel Snap Build

To build a deck around Mr Negative, there are a couple of routes you can take. However, for the current meta, we believe that he fits in really well in a Silver Surfer and Wong deck. But beware, there are a few hard counters to Mr Negative that are also commonly used like Cosmo or Mobius. If you see your opponent play these cards, either avoid playing Mr Negative in those locations or retreat. With that said, here is the full deck breakdown:

Card Cost Power
Bast 1 1
Zabu 2 2
Ironheart 3
Mystique 3
Wolfsbane 3 1
Brood 3 2
Magik 3 2
Rogue 3 2
Silver Surfer 3 2
Mister Negative 4 -1
Wong 4 2
Iron Man 5

What are the Abilities of the Cards?

Here’s a summary of all the card abilities in the deck we are using:

  1. Bast – On Reveal: Set the Power of all cards in your hand to 3.
  2. Zabu – Ongoing: Your 4-Cost cards cost 1 less. (minimum 1 less)
  3. Ironheart – On Reveal: Give 3 of your other cards +2 Power.
  4. Mystique – On Reveal: If the last card you played has an Ongoing, copy its text. (if it’s in play)
  5. Wolfsbane – On Reveal: +2 Power for each other card you have here.
  6. Brood – On Reveal: Add 2 Broodlings here with the same Power.
  7. Magik – On Reveal: Replace this location with ‘Limbo’. Doesn’t work after turn 5.
  8. Rogue – On Reveal: Steal the text from an enemy Ongoing card here.
  9. Silver Surfer – On Reveal: Give your other 3-Cost cards +2 Power.
  10. Mister Negative – On Reveal: Swap the Power and Cost of all cards in your deck.
  11. Wong – Ongoing: Your On Reveal abilities here happen twice.
  12. Iron Man – Ongoing: Your total Power is doubled here.

How Does the Deck Work?

Here’s the play by play for this deck:

  • Turn 1: On your first turn, you should try to play Bast. If you don’t draw it, then you can pass the turn.
  • Turn 2: Your goal for this turn should be to play Zabu. This will reduce the Cost of Mister Negative to 3.
  • Turn 3: If you were able to play Zabu in the previous turn, then this is the time to play Mister Negative. But if things didn’t work out, you still have plenty of options to choose from. Most cards in this deck are 3-Cost cards, so you can play any of them in this turn. Some great cards to play this turn aside from Mister Negative are Brood, Magik, Rogue, Silver Surfer, etc. And if you already have a few cards on board, then playing Ironheart or Wolfsbane is also recommended.
  • Turn 4: Play Mister Negative or Wong in this turn. Wong is a great substitute play as he will let you perform your On Reveal twice in the location he is placed. Combo that with your other cards for excellent location control.
  • Turn 5: Iron Man is the card you want to play this turn as it will help you secure a location fairly easily. Plus, with Mister Negative’s ability, Iron Man becomes a 5-Power card!
  • Turn 6: This is the turn you start filling up the rest of your locations. Having Mister Negative on board will allow you to play several cards like Ironheart, Mystique, Iron Man for free!
  • Turn 7 (optional): If you were able to play Magik this game, then you should have an extra turn to further solidify your hold on the match. Your goal should be to fill out the locations, get some buffs, and win the game!

Final Thoughts

Mr Negative can give cards with a high Cost and low Power an incredible advantage on the playing field. Hence, it is key to design your deck around this concept. Luckily, there are plenty of cards to choose from. You can either use this guide to build your own Mr Negative deck or swap out a few cards and improvise. The choice is yours!
