Amid all the Squid Game mania that kicks off today, both Call of Duty Warzone and Black Ops 6 have received updates that make plenty of gameplay changes and bug fixes. Arguably the most noticeable change across both titles is an upgrade to movement that makes things even faster and slicker than it was before. Plus, Zombies fans have been blessed with a mountain of buffs to the new elemental sword Wonder Weapons.
One of the biggest plus points of Black Ops 6 (and its integration with Warzone) is Omnimovement, the system that takes movement to new levels of speed and dynamism with its action movie-style diving, sliding, and strafing. There’s been a big focus on seamless, uninterrupted movement, but a few obstacles have stood in the way of it feeling completely fluid. Well, two of them have just been tackled with today’s updates to the FPS games.
Across both Black Ops 6 and Warzone, “all mantle speeds have been increased” and “doors can now be opened and closed while sprinting,” according to the latest set of patch notes. This will make aggressive pushes into enemy objectives less janky and stuttered, and the mantling will be of a particular benefit to Warzone players that have to regularly scale large structures, rocks, and hillsides.
Elsewhere in Black Ops 6, Treyarch has done a balancing pass over several scorestreaks due to the addition of the new High Roller wildcard, which lets you equip four streaks instead of the standard three.
While delicious in their design, it’s safe to say some of the new BO6 Wonder Weapons in the Citadelle des Morts Zombies map were a bit underwhelming when it came to actual zombie slaying. Well, a series of buffs to all four variations of the Bastard Sword will make them much more potent. All of the elemental swords can now hit two enemies in the same swing and parry attacks from Amalgam zombies. Individually, Durandel and Balmung have been given some very generous buffs that mainly focus on cooldowns – Caliburn and Solais have also been improved a touch, but nowhere near as much as the other two swords.
There are dozens of other fixes and changes to Citadelle des Morts’ main questline and several gameplay elements too. You can find the full Black Ops 6 patch notes here.
Over in Warzone, alongside the movement changes, there is a fairly long list of bug fixes and a big nerf to the Battle Ready wildcard, which was causing a lot of UAV spam during matches. Now, it will no longer grant you a regular UAV and instead gives you a Supply UAV that will highlight all the supply boxes in your vicinity to help you find better weapons, more ammo, or whatever else you may need to loot. You can find the Warzone patch notes here.
However, what you won’t find in today’s update are any improvements to Call of Duty’s anti-cheat, which has been getting a hammering in recent weeks, especially in regards to how many hackers are plaguing Ranked Play lobbies at the moment.
As mentioned, the Squid Game event does kick off today and runs for the next three weeks. While it comes with limited-time modes and free cosmetics that fans of the Netflix show will love, it has come under fire for its premium rewards track that crams yet another monetization avenue into Black Ops 6 and Warzone.
