Here is how the MLB playoff bracket would look like if the season were to end on Friday, Sept. 3.

We have officially entered the month of September, which means that the MLB postseason is right around the corner. With that, every game left on the schedule will be important, especially for teams looking to steal a Wild Card berth, or to those teams looking to clinch the top seed in their respective league.

With that in mind, here is how the playoff bracket were to end on Friday morning, Sept. 3.

MLB bracket if season were to end on Sept. 3

We must start off with the fact that the postseason bracket will consist of five teams in their respective leagues — three division winners and two Wild Card teams. The top seed will face off against the winner of the one-game Wild Card round.

For the National League, the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants are tied for first in the NL West with 85-49 records. To make matters that much more contentious between the two rivals, they are both 8-8 in head-to-head games this season. So, the next tiebreaker to take into consideration is intradivision winning percentage.

With that, the San Francisco Giants hold the edge, as they are 36-18 against NL West teams, as opposed to the Dodgers, who are 36-22.

But this weekend, the Dodgers and Giants face off against each other for the final three times this season.

Here is how the American League postseason field would look on Friday morning, Sept. 3:

  • AL Wild Card Game: Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees
  • AL Division Series: Winner of Boston Red Sox/New York Yankees at (1) Tampa Bay Rays
  • AL Division Series: (3) Chicago White Sox at (2) Houston Astros

Now here is the National League field:

  • NL Wild Card Game: Cincinnati Reds at Los Angeles Dodgers
  • NL Division Series: Winner of Cincinnati Reds/Los Angeles Dodgers at (1) San Francisco Giants
  • NL Division Series: (3) Atlanta Braves at (2) Milwaukee Brewers
