Mass Effect trailer causes Andromeda speculation frenzy

BioWare first announced the next Mass Effect three years ago, and since then, we’ve had a couple of teases but not really much to go off. For this year’s N7 Day, BioWare began cryptically teasing the next entry into the series before dropping a new 30-second trailer and sending fans into speculation overdrive. The trailer was uploaded piecemeal on a new webpage on EA’s website and doesn’t really offer up any new info. It does raise questions about who the masked N7 operative (who is sporting a rather stylish coat, I might add) might be. Is it Shepard? Is it Liara? Fans have been poring over the trailer to try and find out more. Interestingly, it was accompanied by some strange text that suggests the long-awaited sequel will tie into Mass Effect: Andromeda.////ACCESS CODE: EPSILON/////ACCESS CODE ACCEPTED/////SECONDARY ENCRYPTION DETECTED/////VJBSVU-XXXX-XXXXXXXX/////ANDROMEDA DISTRESS SIGNAL DETECTED/////YEAR SENT: [REDACTED]/////AUDIO TRANSCRIPT: ALTHOUGH THEY SHOULD KNOW BY NOW NOT TO UNDERESTIMATE HUMAN [REDACTED]Elsewhere, BioWare shared artwork of the character from the trailer (again, complete with that stylish coat) on Twitter. If you zoom in closely, you can make out what appears to be a bar scene that includes a bunch of different races, including Krogans, Asaris, Salarians, Turians, and more. Some also believe that Angarans are present in the artwork, which would further link this new entry to Mass Effect: Andromeda as Angarans are only present in the latest game. With BioWare currently working on Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, and dealing with a recent spat of layoffs, it’s likely that we won’t see anything concrete on the new Mass Effect for a while yet. What do you make of the recent round of teases? Give us your thoughts down in the comments!
