With Marvel Rivals well underway, I’ve started thinking about the hero shooter’s future. We’re meant to be getting two characters every season, alongside new maps, limited-time events, and consistent balance changes. So far, NetEase Games has made well on its promises and I’ve been having an absolute blast, but I often wonder what’s next. Well, there’s little reason to worry about Rivals in 2025, because NetEase Games says it’s well ahead of us.
While we don’t know what’s coming in Marvel Rivals Season 2 just yet, I have a pretty good idea. A small in-game tease indicates we’ll be stepping into the mutant Hellfire Gala, and could very well see Emma Frost join the multiplayer game’s ever-expanding roster. We don’t have long to wait either, because Season 1 is wrapping up in less than a month. Until then, however, NetEase Games is keeping busy with content well beyond what’s next.
“We have invested a lot of resources into developing upcoming content, including new characters, new maps, new modes, and more,” Marvel Rivals game director Guangyun Chen says in a PC Gamer interview. “The content for Season 2 is ready and set to go. The designs for Seasons 3 and 4 have also been completed and are currently under intensive development! Overall, everything is progressing smoothly.”
In case you’re as obsessed with numbers as I am, this means NetEase has three seasonal themes planned out alongside six new heroes (one every half a season) and three more battle passes. This doesn’t even account for all the new skins, game modes, and other ideas NetEase has in place, either.
Will the game stay perfectly balanced as six new Marvel Rivals characters join the club? I highly doubt it, but this hasn’t stopped NetEase from constantly shifting how each of the heroes in the 37 strong roster perform. Cloak and Dagger’s ult no longer stacks, Storm and Wolverine have risen the ranks as some of the best DPS in the game, and the triple support meta reigns supreme. Even the Human Torch has been buffed after a lackluster start to Season 1.5, so anything’s possible.
