After a year of anticipation, Mackenzie Dern and Marina Rodriguez will finally meet in the main event of UFC Vegas 39. The promotion is back in Las Vegas for the fourth straight week, as it looks to continue its month-long stretch of events in style. A victory for either woman is another step forward toward a shot at strawweight gold, so something has to give.
Dern enters the bout on a four-fight win streak that dates back to May 2020. Her most recent win took place in April, as she submitted Nina Nunes via first-round armbar. She has also defeated the likes of Randa Markos and Hannah Cifers throughout her UFC tenure thus far.
As for Rodriguez, she currently sits at 14-1-2 and recently won a unanimous decision against Michelle Waterson in May. Rodriguez is on a two-fight winning streak of her own since she lost to inaugural champion, Carla Esparza, in July 2020.
Someone’s streak will end Saturday afternoon, but only time will tell as to which one it will be.
