LG today unveiled its 2022 range of OLED TV models, including the new LG G2, C2, B2, and A2. Each of these come in different sizes, with a couple of new size options being added for 2022.
LG G2 97-inch
The LG G2 is the company’s flagship 4K OLED TV model for 2022. The new version features an updated OLED Evo panel capable of reaching higher peak brightness than the previous generation G1. It also features a heatsink for the panel, which LG markets as Brightness Booster technology. The heatsink pulls heat away from the panel, making it run brighter and also reduce image retention as the panel cools down. With these advances, LG claims the G2 is its brightest OLED TV yet.
The G2 also features the improved α (Alpha) 9 Gen 5 image processor, which is capable of improved image upscaling and producing virtual 7.1.2 surround sound using the TV’s built-in speakers.
LG C2 83-inch
Also new for 2022 is the presence of four full-bandwidth HDMI 2.1 ports. Unlike the 40Gbps ports on the GX and G1 models, the G2 features the full 48Gbps bandwidth that HDMI 2.1 offers. While this is not of any benefit for either of the new consoles, it can be useful for those using their G2 with a PC outfitted with an Nvidia 30-series of AMD 6000 series graphics card.
The LG G2 now also comes in two news sizes, 83-inch and a massive 97-inch. These will join the existing 55-inch, 65-inch, and 77-inch sizes.
LG C2 77-inch
Going down the price ladder is the popular C-series model, dubbed the C2 for 2022. The C2 also benefits from some of the advancements from the G2, including the brighter OLED Evo panel for the 55, 65, 77, and 83-inch models. However, there is no heatsink on the C2, and the 42-inch and 48-inch models don’t get the Evo panel.
Speaking of 42-inch, the LG C2 now comes in an even more compact size, making it ideal for desktop or gaming use. The stand has been updated with a gap at the bottom to make it suitable for desk use. The C2 also gets the new α (Alpha) 9 Gen 5 processor along with the four 48Gbps HDMI 2.1 ports.
LG C2 42-inch
Lastly, there are the B2 and the entry-level A2 models. The two are mostly similar, with both having no OLED Evo panels or heatsink and featuring the older α (Alpha) 7 Gen 5 processor. However, while the B2 still retains the 120Hz refresh rate from the G2 and C2, the A2 is only 60Hz. As such, while the B2 has HDMI 2.1 ports, the A2 only has HDMI 2.0 ports. Both come in 55-inch, 65-inch, and 77-inch, sizes but the A2 also comes in a smaller 48-inch size.
LG OLED TV 2022 range
In terms of software, the 2022 models come with the updated webOS 22, which brings with it user profiles. Users can choose from six profiles for individual members of the family, and each profile can have personalized recommendation based on viewing history.
The new NFC Magic Tap feature can be used to mirror the contents of a mobile device to the TV. Room To Room Share lets you share the contents of one LG OLED TV to another across the house. Always Ready will show artwork, time, or play music when the TV is not in use.
For gamers, the 2022 TVs have an updated Game Optimizer menu, which includes quick access to Dark Room Mode designed for playing in the dark, G-Sync, FreeSync, and VRR settings, and a new sports mode preset for game optimization.
Pricing and availability will be announced at a later date.
