Two decades after shuttering in 2004, Argonaut Games is back as a boutique publisher with plans to re-release several classic games from its library, starting with a Croc: Legend of the Gobbos remaster. It’s set to launch on consoles and PC later this year and will be a welcome contender for our list of the best Xbox platforming games.Croc: Legend of the Gobbos remaster announced for console and PCOriginally released in 1997, Croc: Legend of the Gobbos sees Croc, a friendly crocodile, embark on a quest to rescue cute Gobbos from the evil Baron Dante. It’s a 3D platformer that went on to sell millions of copies, so it’ll be awesome to see it return to modern consoles. This remaster will arrive with enhanced HD graphics and modern controls, as well as some other juicy tidbits. The press release on Argonaut Games’ website tells us that “Retro-gaming fans will be excited to learn that the remaster includes the Crocipedia, an extensive and meticulously curated digital museum containing long-lost development assets such as game design documents, concept art, animation tests, team member interviews, and much more.”We don’t know which platforms Argonaut is targeting, but the company’s co-CEO Mike Arkin says it’s coming to “all current consoles and PC later this year.”Alongside Croc: Legend of the Gobbos, it looks like Argonaut Games also plans on remastering other games from its catalog. Co-CEO Gary Sheinwalk says, “I worked closely with Jez [Arganout Software’s original founder] on the design and production of Starglider, Argonaut’s first big hit back in 1986, so to take up the mantle of relaunching Argonaut Games nearly four decades later brings me full circle, and we have further exciting announcements in the pipeline in the coming months.”It’s been an exciting year for remasters, but here’s hoping Argonaut doesn’t launch Croc with broken achievements like we’ve seen from Aspyr.
