League of Legends is wasting no time showing off its next Exalted skin

On paper, the idea of League of Legends’ new Exalted skins isn’t necessarily a bad one. As Riot Games said itself, it wants to let its developers cook and create high-quality, super-rare, and unique-feeling cosmetic items that can only be obtained through a new, gacha-like mechanic. When you look at so many of the biggest PC games around, such a concept shouldn’t be too controversial. However, Riot’s first attempt – an Arcane-inspired Exalted Jinx skin – has had a pretty rough reception. You’d think that maybe it would take some time to reflect on this, but no – just a day before Arcane Fractured Jinx is set to join the MOBA, Riot has already revealed another new Exalted LoL skin.

If the entire Jinx saga has flown under your radar, let me give you a very swift recap. With the potential of this Exalted Jinx skin costing up to $250, depending on your gacha luck, it was initially met with some grumbles and concern. Then, when it hit the PBE a couple of weeks ago, it got an even frostier reception – while it did come with bespoke voice lines, many in the League of Legends community argued the three rotating variants you get with an Exalted skin looked fairly similar. Plus, she was missing her iconic hood from the Arcane series – something that has been retrospectively added following all the outrage.

At the time of writing, we’re just a day away from the Exalted-tier Arcane Fractured Jinx skin hitting the MOBA on Wednesday, December 11. I fully expected there to be a fairly long cooldown period before the next Exalted skin arrived, due to both the exclusivity and novelty these top-tier skins should have, plus the controversy Arcane Fractured Jinx had caused. Well, I couldn’t have been more wrong. A new Exalted skin for Sett has just hit the PBE.

Titled Radiant Serpent Sett, LoL’s second Exalted skin once again features three variants that you can rotate between. However, while his golden appearance does at least come with some striking additional VFX in the form of some gold flames that hover behind him, his red and blue variants look really rather similar, bar the color of course.

Regardless of design quality, though, many LoL fans are just exasperated at the fact Riot is putting out another expensive Exalted skin so soon after the first. Jinx technically isn’t here yet and already Sett is on the PBE. While Riot hasn’t given a firm release date, he has joined the PBE at the same time as patch 5.1, which will drop early in the new year. So, we may only see a gap of around a month between the first and second Exalted LoL skins.
