A Microsoft insider has claimed that Xbox’s strategy of not launching Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 on PS5 has been considered a “mistake” by the company. Prior to Ninja Theory’s acquisition, the original release — Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice — launched as a timed PS4 console exclusive and went on to become a commercial success.
Will Hellblade 2 release on PS5?
Insider and Windows Central writer Jez Corden claims to have heard from his source(s) that Microsoft considers Hellblade 2’s Xbox exclusivity a “mistake.” Corden said this in response to an X user who had asked him why games like Indiana Jones and The Outer Worlds 2 are going multiplatform while Hellblade 2 has been restricted.
I heard they consider hellblade exclusivity a mistake— Jez (@JezCorden) December 15, 2024
Since Microsoft doesn’t share sales data and releases first-party games on Game Pass, we don’t know the exact sales figure for Hellblade 2. However, Circana’s Mat Piscatella previously revealed that the game ranked 37th overall for May 2024 in the U.S.
Considering Hellblade 2 is a single-player game that can be one and done, we don’t imagine Game Pass users flocking to purchase it. At the same time, Hellblade 2 is hardly a selling point for Game Pass. Given the series’ history on PlayStation, we’re not surprised to read Corden’s tweet.
As for whether Hellblade 2 will release on the PS5 or not, rumor has it that it’s only a matter of time before it’s ported over.
