SNK has announced that it will be bringing Omega Rugal to The King of Fighters XV in April as a free downloadable character and the star of a punishing new mode, Boss Challenge.I mentioned in my first impressions of the fighter that KoF XV’s bosses are nowhere near as ridiculous as those that lie in wait at the end of most SNK fighters, and the team has clearly taken this as an invitation to up the stakes with a new Boss Challenge mode. More modes are certainly welcome, as the lack of solo content was one of my main criticisms of the otherwise great fighter, although anyone with any experience of SNK super-bosses will likely find themselves as terrified as they are excited to try out the new mode.SNK even goes all-in on the difficulty players can expect in that character reveal trailer, inviting them to “take on the CPU from Hell” while showing off a montage of Omega Rugal’s Genocide Cutter anti-air special beating out a bunch of other special moves. Fans are also speculating that the new stage we see in the trailer could be alluding to more super-boss characters being added to this mode down the line — the arrival of Geese with Team South Side as the second wave of paid DLC fighters in May would be a perfect opportunity to also add a souped-up version of the returning boss, for instance, and the series has plenty of other great candidates for absurdly overpowered showdowns.Keen to go toe-to-toe with Omega Rugal next month?
