Jon Anik believes that a Conor McGregor bet to beat Dustin Poirier is the way to go on Saturday night.

Jon Anik is extremely amped to call 56 fighters names over the next two weekends. More importantly, he’s excited about the trilogy that has the whole world buzzing between Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor in the main event.

Anik, the UFC’s main play-by-play personality, is also known for having a fix for betting lines and wagers. While he can’t place a bet on any of the UFC 264 events on Saturday, he did give his critique on why McGregor’s chances might be the smart play for anyone looking to cash in on fight night.

Shortly after the early morning weigh-ins, Anik had an exclusive Q&A session with the media, where he touched on the odds and various other fight week related topics.

”The one thing I’ve looked a lot at though was that was anything but a normalized fight atmosphere,” Anik said. “Certainly, much has been made of Conor McGregor’s children being there. But Fight Island and that W Hotel, you guys can attest. It’s just an intoxicating, weird fight atmosphere. You know, we had a quick result with Chandler-Hooker. A little bit of an abbreviated warm-up. The next thing you know, Conor and Dustin are in the cage. Now you got 20,00 plus at T-Mobile Arena. I just think it stands for reason that both athletes can benefit from being back in front of a crowd. But big picture for me, I think Dustin’s biggest advantage is just the lack of gaps in developmental time over the last 10 years at this craft, without a break, for 15-20 years. And that’s why he has 11 UFC lightweight wins to his credit. I think Conor’s gonna have to fight a great fight, but he did win round one in January and I think a lot of people who are looking at him at plus money are gonna find that to be pretty juicy.”

Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor look to settle the score

Come fight night, the time for trash talking will be over, as both men will look to solidly themselves as the division’s No. 1 contender to Charles Oliveira’s lightweight throne.

For now, though, only time will tell.

UFC 264 takes place on July 10, 2021, live from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV. Follow along with FanSided who is cageside for all your live news and highlights.
