Ohio State football legend Joey Galloway expounds on the state of the Ohio State-Michigan football rivalry.

While Michigan football head coach Jim Harbaugh continues to say petty things at the podium about the Buckeyes, Joey Galloway knows his beloved Ohio State football program is more concerned with bigger things than the Wolverines.

Harbaugh might refer to Ohio State as Ohio and say Michigan State is the Wolverines’ biggest rival out of blatant disrespect, but the Buckeyes do not view them as a threat. The rivalry is completely one-sided. Galloway says Ohio State is more concerned with winning the College Football Playoff than Michigan.

Ohio State has won eight straight in the rivalry and 15 of the last 16 so Galloway isn’t wrong to say the Buckeyes have more important things to worry about than simply beating their rivals, again. Which, of course, they still want to do that, it’s just not the end game.

Joey Galloway reflects on the current state of the Ohio State-Michigan rivalry

Ohio State may have more resources and a deeper football tradition over Michigan, but Harbaugh has to do a better job of keeping up with the Buckeyes in recruitment. While Ohio State is keeping pace with other perennial College Football Playoff contenders like Alabama, Clemson and Georgia, Michigan is losing players to Michigan State and Kentucky in their same geographical footprint.

No doubt that Michigan has rigorous academic standards that could make college football recruitment difficult, but the Wolverines are labeled as a blue-blood for a reason: They are supposed to win all the time! Until Michigan can hold a candle to what Ohio State does in recruitment, expect the most storied rival in the Big Ten to resemble a hammer vs. a nail.

Winning in recruitment is the only way Michigan stops the Ohio State from getting even wider.
