Development tools provider JetBrains has launched non-commercial licences for JavaScript and TypeScript IDE WebStorm and cross-platform .NET and game dev IDE Rider.
WebStorm supports frontend, backend, and full-stack development with JavaScript and TypeScript. Rider offers tools for game development across PC, console, and mobile platforms, supporting engines like Unreal, Unity, and Godot.
The IDEs can now be used for non-commercial purposes such as learning, open-source project development, content creation and hobby development.
Non-commercial users will also have full access to paid features, including AI-powered code completion.
Lowering barrier to access
“We have been providing professional tools to help millions of developers worldwide for over two decades,” said JetBrains VP of program management and communications Hadi Hariri.
“This change allows us to lower the barrier of access to our products for those learning software development, hobbyists, and content creators, amongst others.”
JetBrains head of marketing and biz dev for .NET and GameDev Tools Anastasia Kazakova added: “Creators of game engines like Unreal Engine and Unity have pioneered the model where indie developers can use the same technologies for free.
“We are adopting a similar approach, extending it to software development and empowering developers to create, innovate, and grow their skills freely.”
