Jacob deGrom leaves game with mysterious injury

Jacob deGrom was dealing for the Mets, but left his outing against the Diamondbacks under mysterious circumstances.

deGrom departed with the head trainer after throwing several warmup pitches in the top of the sixth inning. He had thrown a near-perfect outing, giving up just one run while contributing to his cause via a drag bunt.

This is deGrom’s second injury scare of the young season, as he had just returned to the mound from his previous ailment related to right lat inflammation. deGrom returned to the mound for the Mets series finale against Arizona today, but obviously now there is greater concern.

“Any time you’re talking about someone that special, it’s a relief whenever there is any kind of potential health issue,” Mets GM Zack Scott said before deGrom’s start on Sunday. “As we did the due diligence and work on it, it wasn’t something that anyone thought was a major issue.”

The Mets are holding their breath waiting for further updates on Jacob deGrom

In just five innings of work, deGrom allowed one hit while striking out six and walking three. He was frequently clocked at 100 MPH.

Miguel Castro entered in relief for deGrom, and as of now the Mets have yet to announce any official update.
