Nothing didn’t want to be left out of the media spotlight this week what with all the announcements happening at MWC in Barcelona, so it started its teaser campaign for the upcoming Phone (2) in earnest.
We’re expecting to be drip-fed tidbits of information about the new device over the next few weeks or months, since that’s a strategy that Nothing CEO Carl Pei loves and has employed many times before, including at OnePlus before founding Nothing. It all starts with the chipset. The Nothing Phone (2) will use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 series.
Nothing Phone (1)
Unfortunately the company didn’t go into any more detail than that. We are naturally going to assume that it’s going to be the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 powering the Nothing Phone (2), as it does a lot of flagship Android devices that are coming out this year.
The Nothing Phone (2) will be launched in the US according to Carl Pei himself and is expected to arrive in the third quarter of the year, so between July and September. If that launch timeframe pans out, there’s a chance it could use the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2, if that is a thing that will exist.
The news isn’t very surprising since we already heard that, unlike the mid-range Phone (1), the Phone (2) would be higher-end. Just how much higher-end remains to be seen, however. Is it going to be an all-out flagship competing with the Galaxy S23 Ultras of the world, or more of a ‘flagship killer’ competing with the OnePlus 11s of the world instead?
Let’s wait and see. Previous rumors talked about the upcoming device arriving with 12GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, a 120 Hz OLED display, and a 5,000 mAh battery. We’ll be curious to see if the transparent back design will stay, alongside the Glyph LEDs.
