Space Jam A New Legacy, also known as Space Jam 2, is now streaming but is it on Netflix?
The time has finally come, Bugs and Lola Bunny are back on the court.
Michael Jordan won’t be back for Space Jam: A New Legacy, rather LeBron James rightfully takes his place as the NBA successor to the crossover crown.
From the looks of the trailer, there’s a heavy emphasis on crossover. Warner Bros has emptied the tank, digging all the way back to the 1920s with its IP to make it a part of the multiverse in Space Jam 2.
We’ve got rapping Daffy and Porky, The Matrix crossing over, and just about every movie ever made as a part of the new Space Jam 2 action. It’s essentially trying to be meme’d into pop culture relevancy, which isn’t a bad strategy but is one that’s pretty easy to see through.
Regardless of whether or not the meme strategy works, you’re probably wondering if HBO Max is the only place you’ll be able to watch Space Jam A New Legacy.
Is Space Jam: A New Legacy on Netflix?
Unfortunately it’s not on Netflix, and it might not ever reach that streaming service. Because of the rights deal that HBO has with Warner Bros, the streaming rights for Space Jam: A New Legacy are exclusive.
That means Netflix, Hulu, and any other streaming service will not have the right to stream the movie until Warner Bros licenses it out.
This is not unlike when Netflix distributes an original movie. Films like The Irishman and Mank aren’t even available to buy in iTunes because Netflix has the exclusive rights to the film. Criterion released an edition for The Irishman but the film will likely never be in rotation on the Criterion Channel streaming service because of this rights ownership.
It’s also why Space Jam 2 will likely not stream anywhere other than HBO Max.
What time does Space Jam 2 come out on HBO Max
Space Jam 2 will hit HBO Max at 3 am ET on July 16th. The film will also be released in theaters that day, although some special screenings happened early on Thursday.
