Humanoid Origin, The Studio Founded By Bioware Veteran Casey Hudson Is Shutting Down

Former general manager at Bioware and one of the major driving forces behind the Mass Effect trilogy, Casey Hudson, left the Canadian studio back in 2020, and a year later revealed that he had founded a brand new studio called Humanoid Origin.The team’s mission, as it says on their website was “to deliver magical interactive storytelling, by connecting talented creatives to powerful tools, in a safe and supportive environment.”That mission will unfortunately go unrealized, as Hudson and the studio announced on LinkedIn on Monday that Humanoid Origin would be shutting down before it could release its debut project.“Despite efforts to shield the studio from broader challenges in the industry, an unexpected shortfall of funding left us unable to sustain operations,” the statement on the studio’s LinkedIn page reads.“We’re heartbroken that we will not be able to bring our new science-fiction universe to completion. Our main concern at this time however is for our team, and we are committed to supporting them in their transition to new employment.”“In our time together, the team achieved incredible progress, and demonstrated that it’s possible to do amazing work while fostering a culture of fun and creativity. We thank them for their talent, courage and friendship. Thank you to everyone who supported us throughout our journey.”According to the studio’s LinkedIn page, there were 72 people that worked at Humanoid, though they are all now unfortunately looking for work.
