All these years later, Fallout 4 is the gift that keeps on giving. Bethesda dropped the next-gen update and the modding scene shows no signs of slowing down, with new creations coming out every day. We’ve had the DLC-sized Fallout London, and there are plenty more mods that want to completely rewrite what it means to play the game. One of these is Project Arroyo, and while we wait to finally try it in full the modding team behind it has teased us with a delightful appetizer. Not only that, we’ve also got an excellent in-universe commercial that could be right out of the games too.
Fallout 4: Project Arroyo is a fan-made remake that aims to recreate Black Isle’s Fallout 2 entirely within the Bethesda game. The modding team is aiming to build the original game from the ground up while including cut content and expanding the parts of the RPG that need it. Project Arroyo certainly sounds like a tall order, but the team’s latest update gives me a lot of faith that it can pull the Fallout 4 mod off.
That update comes in the form of a Pip-Boy 2000 mod, which you can download and take into Fallout 4 right now. The Project Arroyo team has done its best to recreate the Pip-Boy from Fallout 2, and seamlessly integrate it into FO4. You can choose from various skins, watch all-new custom animations, and walk around with an even older piece of retro-futurism tech on your wrist.
It’s not just the Pip-Boy 2000 mod either, as the Project Arroyo team has also released a fan-made in-universe commercial for the product. This advert goes above and beyond what I’ve seen for most mods of this scale, and perfectly encapsulates the retro-futuristic 1950s-inspired setting that the entire Fallout series is built on.
As for what the Project Arroyo mod will contain, the team provided us with an update last year. “We are shrinking the areas of little significance (such as empty desert areas), [while] at the same time expanding the existing locations of Fallout 2,” the team wrote. “So that they feel just as important as they were in the original game; making the seamless playable area to be around twice the size of Fallout 4’s.”
You can find the Project Arroyo team’s Pip-Boy 2000 model on Nexus Mods right here.
We’ve also brought together all the essential Fallout 4 console commands alongside everything we know about the Fallout 5 release date.
