How do you unlock the Destiny 2 Skimmer? Historically, there has been only one vehicle for players to get around at speed in the entire Destiny series. While the faithful Sparrow glided us across the galaxy, it’s not quite the same as the new hoverboard, which allows you to perform sick tricks along the way.
If you’ve been away from Destiny 2 for a while, you can get the Skimmer by participating in the Destiny 2 Guardian Games. It’s an excellent new upgrade in the FPS game to mess around with, particularly as the Destiny 2 The Final Shape release date is still a few months away. For now, though, here’s all you need to know about unlocking the Destiny 2 Skimmer and whether any premium hoverboard options are available.
How to get the Destiny 2 Allstar Vector Skimmer
To get the Destiny 2 Allstar Vector Skimmer, you first need to complete the Best In Class quest for Eva Levante in the Tower. Once you complete all the objectives, turn it in and Eva will then give you a new quest: Drop In. This quest will give you the common version of the Allstar Skimmer for free. However, this will disappear after the Guardian Games event concludes, so you need to finish the Drop In quest to unlock the hoverboard permanently.
Luckily, you don’t need to finish everything on the quest’s objectives to complete Drop In, as only one is required to get the Exotic version, which will stay in your inventory permanently beyond the Guardian Games event. However, you will need to complete the mission by Tuesday, March 26, 2024, to keep it.
The first way is to get 1,200 Medallion Score, and it’s perhaps the most time-consuming method. You’ll need to race in the Guardian Games and consistently place on the podium. The points values range from just one if you get a bronze medal, two for silver, five for gold, and 15 for platinum. Even if you’re consistently earning platinum medals, you need to complete a minimum of 80 races, which is quite the grind.
Another way to finish the Drop In quest is to earn a top 10% score for the week in Nightfall challenges. If you have a dedicated group of friends willing to run these missions with you and you’re quite adept at consistently finishing them, then this may be the quickest way to get the Destiny 2 Skimmer for free. If you need assistance before you decide to go down this route, you can check out our Destiny 2 builds for the Destiny 2 classes.
For the most patient among you, the final way to get this is to open three Focus Activity winners packages. How they work is that, every so often, the Focus Activity will change to one of the Guardian Games playlists. This lasts for two hours during the week and three on weekends. Hover the cursor over the symbol and banner to see which playlist is the current Focus Activity and how long it has left. You can earn bronze, silver, gold, or champion’s packages depending on your performance during these Focus Activities. The objective doesn’t specify which of these you need to open for it to count toward the three packages you need to open, however.
Destiny 2 premium Skimmer
In addition to the free Destiny 2 Skimmer, a premium hoverboard is available, which you can find in the Eververse store. The Winged Wolf is part of the Gjallarheart Gear Bundle, which appears to be the only way you can get this Skimmer so far. You can get this bundle for 2,500 Silver, Destiny 2’s premium currency. While it’s currently available in the shop, it’s so far unknown when the bundle will disappear after the Guardian Games themselves end. It’s also not been confirmed whether this Skimmer will return for Bright Dust as we edge closer to The Final Shape.
With any luck, you should get permanent access to the Destiny 2 Skimmer, whether you grind away at objectives or simply decide to spend real money on it.
