Devil Next Door is the new game from Apparition Pictures, the creators of Floors Have Teeth. This short horror game charges you with determining man from monster. And our guide on how to play The Devil Next Door is here to help you through it.

Devil Next Door is free to play on Roblox. If you want to see more from Apparition Pictures, maybe try our Floors Have Teeth endings guide.

How To Play The Devil Next Door

In Devil Next Door, you take the role of an unfortunate individual caught up in an infernal apocalypse. Devils wander among the human population and try to blend in in order to do horrible things.

Fortunately for you, your house is relatively safe.. something people in the area seem to know about. People will arrive at your door, looking for help. The problem is, if you want it to stay safe, you need to make sure your prospective guests are not devils posing as humans.

Devils

Devils are malevolent creatures that can disguise themselves as humans. They do this to try and infiltrate human shelters and do something unspecified, but probably very bad.

Devils inside your house will not immediately attack, instead, they will try to blend in to catch you off guard.

The Devils’ camouflage isn’t perfect though, there are several things that can give them away. Keep in mind that a Devil might not have all of these traits, and may only have one. You will get the option to check for these as they unlock.

  • Teeth – Devils have sharp, jagged teeth.
  • Eyes – Devils have black veins in the whites of their eyes.
  • Hands – Devils have black patches on their hands.

Game Phases

The game is broadly divided into two phases, Day and Night.

Night

During the night, visitors will knock on your door. Interact with the door to see who is asking to come in. They will plead their case to you, then it’s up to you to vote on whether to let them in. None of the arrivals show their teeth, and many hide their eyes, so you must judge them on whether they sound suspicious or not.

You only have a short amount of time to vote yes or no. If voted yes, the new arrival will come inside. There are generally two knocks per night. After two, you can go back to bed.

Day

During the day, your job is to try and work out whether your house guests are what they seem. The kicker is you have a limited amount you can do in a day.

Your moves are indicated by the crosses on the top of the screen. You need to speak to the people in the house, check for signs that they’re a devil, and take care of the problem if they are.

Each check takes one cross of energy.
Shooting a devil takes one cross of energy.

If you run out of things to do, you can sleep by interacting with the sleeping medicine on the dresser in the hall. (Though this didn’t work in our runs, so we had to repeat checks until our energy ran out.)

The Priest

At points in the game, the Priest will take survivors from your house away for safety. You’ll know this has happened when you see a note slipped through your door. The person taken will disappear from the house, presumably to safety… we hope.

Endings

There are three endings you can get.

  • The Hollow Victory – Get through 7 days without any devils in the house, turn the thing at the door away, and go through the previously locked door in the hall.
  • Solitude’s Whisper – Don’t let anyone in throughout the week, turn everyone away at the door.
  • A Stranger’s Reflection – Complete all the days, but miss a Devil that’s hiding in the house.
