New World’s Winter Convergence Festival has begun, bringing wholesome festivities to the isle of Aeternum, along with the expected sinister overtone. This time-limited event is running from December 16, 2021 until January 11, 2022, with various dates and times to make a note of. Playing during this time will net you some pretty impressive and funky rewards, from flashy costumes to decked-out weapons.
Alongside the items up for grabs, there are a number of new quests, opportunities to deepen your understanding of New World lore, and special events that are due to take place. With the introduction of the Winter Wanderer and his frosty minions, there is now a whole new chapter in Aeternum’s story that features grisly Ice Trolls and Frigid Folk who are here to cause mischief en masse. Fortunately, there is a lighter side to the festival, and one which you are free to embrace, where the long-suffering island residents get a glimpse at happiness and cheer.
We’ve put a quick guide together for those looking to get the most out of this season, be it through free items, quests, or uncovering the icy lore of the Winter Wanderer.
Be present to get presents
Let’s not beat around the bush here – one of the best parts of the festive season is the piles of gifts. Fortunately, New World has this covered, with a dedicated 10-day giveaway featuring wintery goodies for all. The first few days have already passed, but there’s still time to grab yourself a swanky Festive Hood and a Wreath Housing Item to decorate your pad (more on that later).
If you missed the free stuff, don’t panic, as the holiday shop for most other items will be open until January 10 (aside from the Festive Deer Bundle and the Court Couture Outfit which are available until January 5). These limited edition items will help you stand out from the crowd, with huge flamboyant feathery outfits and a selection of festive weapon skins to help you slay with style.

These are only available through winter activities such as recovering lost presents (one token for every three returned), harvesting Gleamite (one token for every ten harvested), or merely trading a heap of Winter Tokens for Premium Winter Tokens which are worth more.
Just be aware that event reputation will dictate what you can and cannot buy in the store, so it is worth building it up ASAP. If you manage to complete the quests and defeat the evil aspect of the Winter Wanderer, you’ll earn yourself some sweet event reputation, although just finishing the story is not enough. You’ll have to engage with lost present returns, collecting daily rewards from The Tree Of Light, and harvesting Gleamite as well. Once you’ve built up enough rep, you can complete the final quest and purchase more festive items at the store.
Deck the halls
If you’re done kitting yourself out with the latest festive fashions, you can also give your house a complete makeover. An array of new housing decor will also be available for this limited time, and can be placed around to spruce up your home.
Even tents get a look in, with two Camp Skins designed to keep you cosy and protect from the icy winds of Aeternum.
You can go more traditional, however, and stick to the house – decking the halls with blue, green, and purple adornments and even a pet deer. These include a Chandelier, Garland, Gingerbread Cottage, Tree of Light, Presents, and a Snowman in one big bundle, or nab yourself that adorable reindeer in a bundle of coloured dyes.
Be where the parties are
There are a total of four Winter Villages, situated in Everfall, Monarch’s Bluff, Weaver’s Fen, and Brightwood. Each of these is the place to be during the festive season, as you’ll be able to start the new quest lines by finding the Yeti here. Completing quests rewards you with tokens, which can also be spent in the themed winter wonderland of shops in each Village.
You’ll also want to hunt down some Ice Caves to finish up those quests, driving the Lord of Ice and his minions ever back. There are twelve of these, with most appearing between Brightwood and Great Cleave.

The Tree Of Light is an important aspect of this festival, and must be looted once a day to get the most out of it. By checking in once a day, you are contributing to the maximum level of that tree. One can be found in each settlement.
Gleamite also needs to be harvested for that sweet token. One way to locate your first chunk is to speak with the Winter Wanderer. He will put a marker on your map and you’ll soon come across a big purple spiky heap of the stuff. Gleamite showers are random, however, so keep your eyes on the sky for any falling gems. It’s definitely worth harvesting these glowing crystals as soon as you see them, as they can be exchanged for considerable amounts of tokens. And aside from the financial benefit, the showers are a real sight to behold.
Spread some cheer
Picking up some cheery emotes is never a bad idea, and if you grabbed the Shivering emote from the free giveaway then you may even garner some sympathy. Alongside this, you can teach your in-game self to do a traditional Leg Kick Dance, or a simple Belly Laugh to express your joy during festivities.

Discover duality
If there was ever a time to lose yourself in lore, this is it, as an entire new chapter has been added to the development of Aeternum. The Winter Wanderer is an omnipotent character of two halves, symbolising the joy and kindness of Convergence on the one hand, and mischief and icy fear on the other. Completing quests where mighty Yeti are slain and the oncoming threat of an eternal winter is pushed back will earn you favour with the benevolent Father Winter, who will reward you amply with food and wine. Failing to defend the island puts you in great danger, however, as the Lord of Frost mobilises his icy army.
