One thing indie games do so wonderfully is to take a concept and explore it freely. When you’re dealing with multi-million dollar titles, risks can be tough to justify but a small team can double down on something with almost wild abandon. That’s how we get focused and brilliant games like Balatro, Celeste, Shovel Knight, or even Undertale. Buckshot Roulette is another that doubles down on itself to wonderful effect, and it just got even better thanks to a big update.
We’ve known for a while that multiplayer is coming to Buckshot Roulette but now it’s finally arrived after a brief beta. That’s right, you can challenge your friends and family to join you in this grim, lo-fi horror game, and potentially end your relationship with them – permanently. With no matchmaking you’ll have to already know who you want to challenge so it’s mostly a case of facing off against people in your life, though a bot exists in the game’s Discord to try and get people playing together.
In addition to multiplayer itself, there’s a few tweaks that make the game work better when you’re facing off against real life humans instead of the Dealer. These include several new items you can use to take out your opponents (and perhaps yourself), updated multiplayer music, and a few other changes..
It’s fair to say that multiplayer is something fans have been asking for, and now it’s here they’re jumping back in and sending Buckshot Roulette’s Steam player count sky-high. At the time of writing the game has a 24-hour concurrent player peak of 14,913, which is also its highest-ever number of players. This beats out even the game’s launch, showing just how popular multiplayer is as a concept and how much fans wanted it.
The multiplayer update for Buckshot Roulette is out now. If you’d like to learn more, head over to the game’s Steam announcement to see the full rundown of what you can expect.
