Arrowhead Game Studios’ Helldivers 2 shot into the limelight earlier this year with its awesome Starship Troopers-style third-person action. While players collecting the Halo Infinite achievements can look forward to a similar experience via a community-made Forge project later this month, it’s not the same as seeing Helldivers 2 join the list of Xbox third-person shooters. Despite players crying out for an Xbox port, it’s yet to happen, and now Arrowhead’s community manager has commented on Helldivers 2 coming to Xbox. The decision to bring Helldivers 2 to Xbox falls to SonyWhile many of us on Xbox have jealously watched players on PS5 and PC crashing down onto planets to annihilate alien hordes in a hail of bullets and explosive ordinance, it’s the painful reality of console exclusives. Many had hoped that Helldivers 2’s live-service elements would push Sony to bring the popular game to Xbox Series X|S in search of higher profits, especially after Microsoft launched Sea of Thieves and Grounded on Sony’s consoles earlier this year, but it hasn’t come to pass. In fairness, Helldivers 2 only launched this year and still has a solid community playing consistently, whereas Sea of Thieves and Grounded already had years of Xbox console exclusivity behind them, operating mostly off of a core fanbase, so branching out to new platforms makes sense.Despite that, it hasn’t stopped players from asking Arrowhead Game Studios to port its shooter to Xbox, such as one comment made in the game’s official Discord server this week. When replying to the user, Arrowhead community manager Thomas “Twinbeard” Petersson said (via Windows Central): “Who says it couldn’t? It’s not up to us but to Sony and Phil to duke out, but hypothetically speaking, if both partners think it would benefit them from a financial/brand standpoint, it could. If Sony believes it won’t though, it won’t.”Petersson’s comment isn’t surprising at all, and I think if we’re ever going to see Sony even consider bringing the game to Xbox, we’ll need to wait for its popularity to dwindle a little more. In the meantime, the talented folks at The Forge Falcons are preparing to release Helljumpers as a Halo Infinite Forge mode on October 25. Helljumpers is a PvE experience that features similar Helldivers 2 gameplay elements, putting you in the shoes of a Halo ODST squad. The mode sees you drop into a map to complete various mission objectives while dealing with procedurally generated side missions, semi-scripted combat encounters, and dynamic events. If you’d rather step into the shoes of a Federation Marine instead, Offworld Industries’ Starship Troopers: Extermination launched on Xbox Series X|S earlier this month. It’s a co-op first-person shooter for up to 16 players and puts you on the frontlines of humanity’s war with the Arachnids. After picking one of the six available classes to play as, your team is deployed on various planets to rebuild bases, construct refineries, and other objectives to annihilate the onslaught of alien bugs. As for other PlayStation console exclusives coming to Xbox, it looks like we could be playing Black Myth: Wukong soon.
