343 Industries has released more details on campaign co-op in Halo Infinite and confirmed that a Halo Infinite campaign co-op beta will begin on July 11th.As revealed in a whopper of a blog post over on Halo Waypoint, 343’s Isaac Bender (principal software engineering lead) and John Mulkey (lead world designer) detail what we can expect from Halo Infinite’s campaign network co-op including the ability to finally replay missions, cross-play, progression, and confirmed that a flight to test out network co-op will kick off on July 11th for Halo Insiders. While some online co-op games only count the progress made by the party leader, in Halo Infinite, 343 has confirmed that progress will track for everyone in the team (up to four players) as you play. “The goal going in was to ‘allow everyone to play their campaigns together,'” Mulkey said. “This meant that all progress made in the game, regardless of it being through Solo or Co-Op play, would be retained.”I could be playing Solo campaign, jump into a Co-Op session for a few hours, then launch back into Solo play and all the mission progress, acquired collectables, equipment found, achievements earned, and upgrades made in either session would be intact. Gone are the days of playing someone else’s game while earning no progress.”One major addition coming with the campaign network co-op update (which is expected to drop in late August) is Mission Replay, which will finally allow you to go back and pick up any collectables you missed the first time around. In both solo and co-op play, after you open your Tac-Map, you will be able to highlight a completed mission and then choose to replay it on whatever difficulty you choose. This will reset the mission and teleport you and your teammate to play through the mission. To ensure players aren’t taking on missions further along in the story that they haven’t unlocked, 343 is using a system it calls ‘No Spartan Left Behind.’ Mulkey says that “When players join the Fireteam and choose their save slots to play on, the game aggregates the states of all missions across those saves and sets up a world state in which any missions completed by all Fireteam members are marked as complete while any missions not completed by all are marked as incomplete.”With Zeta Halo being a pretty large open world, 343 has said that you and your co-op buddy won’t be able to stray too far from one another to ensure you play together. “We have established what is called “Area-Of-Operations (AOO),” Mulkey explained. “This is the maximum distance that players in a Fireteam can stray from one another as they explore and tackle the challenges of Zeta Halo.” At around 800 feet, you will get a warning to return to the team, and if you ignore that you will be killed and respawn back to your nearest teammate. If you exceed 1,000 feet you will automatically be killed and spawned back on your teammate. How to join Halo Infinite campaign co-op flight343 is holding a beta test for Halo Infinite’s campaign network co-op and mission replay through the Halo Insider program, beginning on July 11th. If you want to get involved with the test, you will need to sign up for the Halo Insider program and either have an active Xbox Game Pass subscription or own Halo Infinite’s campaign. If you’re using an Xbox console,s you will need to have the Xbox insider app downloaded and opt into the Network Co-Op flight program once the flight is live. For those on Steam, you’ll be sent a key via Halo Insider communications to download the flight build. Sadly, 343 has confirmed that any progress made in the flight will not carry over to the retail version of the game. Are you excited for campaign co-op in Halo Infinite?
