Dataminers who have been trawling through Halo Infinite’s technical preview files claim to have found an audio file referencing a battle royale game mode. The audio file, which was uncovered by the folks over on Resetera (via VG247), features Halo Infinite’s announcer Jeff Steitzer saying the words “battle royale,” which suggests Halo Infinite’s free-to-play multiplayer might feature the popular game mode. If Halo Infinite does feature a battle royale mode, this would seemingly go against what 343 Industries has said in the past. Late last year, rumours began to circulate surrounding a Halo Infinite battle royale mode, but these were quickly quelled by Halo’s community manager Brian Jarrard who called the rumours “unfounded.” In a Mixer stream back in 2018, 343 Industries writer Jeff Easterling also shot down a suggestion that the game would include a battle royale mode. “I’ll tell you right now, the only BR we’re interested in is Battle Rifle. The original BR,” Easterling said.If the file is real, it seems to suggest that 343 Industries’ plans have changed since Jarrard’s and Easterling’s comments and that we might be getting a battle royale mode when Halo Infinite launches this holiday season or sometime in the future. It’s also possible that 343 Industries once upon a time considered the mode before changing direction, and the audio file is simply an unused asset.Until Microsoft confirms that Halo Infinite will be getting a battle royale mode, it’s best to keep expectations for the game in check. We’ll update you as soon as we find out more. Spoilers for Halo Infinite’s campaign are also doing the rounds on the internet after dataminers managed to find campaign files in Halo Infinite’s first multiplayer technical test.
