GTA 6 looks amazing, but a 2025 Xbox Series X|S release is tough to swallow

It finally happened — the Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer dropped yesterday and it looks phenomenal. As the rumors suggested, we’re heading back to Vice City for this incarnation and Rockstar has done a hell of a job bringing the Miami replica to life. Everything in that trailer looked outstanding… except for the final few seconds when “coming 2025” popped up on the screen. It’s been a decade since the last Grand Theft Auto game, and five years since Rockstar’s last release, Red Dead Redemption 2, so to find out that we still have another year or two (it could be anywhere from January to December 2025, after all) is maddening. There have been plenty of pretenders to GTA’s throne over the years; Saints Row, Watch Dogs, Sleeping Dogs, and while they’re all great games in their own rights, none of them have come close to GTA in terms of spectacle. A new Grand Theft Auto game releasing is one of the premier events of a console generation and we’ve not had it for over a decade.Don’t get me wrong. I know game development takes an age (especially when you put shrinking-horse-testicles levels of detail into your games like Rockstar does) and I’d definitely rather they don’t rush it, but maybe I’d rather they’d just kept it under wraps until a little closer to launch. Like, we all knew it was coming, GTA 6 was never a secret, but having actually seen it in action, and not getting to put hands on it until 2025 just stings all the more. Oh well, I guess that gives me plenty of time to try and 100% the *checks notes* three different versions of GTA V on the Xbox (four if you count the Japanese one, which I’m not). And it could be worse, the poor PC players will likely have to wait even longer for their version.
