Grand Theft Auto V launched again on Wednesday, bringing the delights of Los Santos to a third generation of consoles. This week’s edition of Crimewatch is a special edition to celebrate the game’s new home on Xbox Series X|S.For better or for worse there are few games that can say they’ve seen two launches, let alone a third. But when you’ve got a player base as large as Grand Theft Auto V — which consistently sits in the top five most played games each week on our Xbox Gameplay Chart — it’s no wonder Rockstar is taking its time retiring it. We know that the development of GTA VI is “well underway” now, but there is potential for it to be a considerable wait before we see it grace our screens, so giving its almost nine-year-old predecessor another graphical and performance overhaul is a smart move by Rockstar.Grand Theft Auto V for Xbox Series X|S offers a host of improvements over the Xbox One version, which you can see in action in the video above, thanks to MrWilliamThor on YouTube. Rockstar has given the game three new graphics settings for the latest generation of consoles: Fidelity Mode: Xbox Series X supports 4K/30fps with ray-tracing enabled, and Xbox Series S supports upscaled 4K/30 without ray-tracing.Performance Mode: Xbox Series X supports upscaled 4K/60fps and the Xbox Series S supports 1080p/60fps.Performance RT: This is a hybrid of the two other modes and allows the Xbox Series X to support upscaled 4K/60 with ray-tracing enabled. The Xbox Series S doesn’t support this mode, though.Alongside the new modes, players can expect to see faster load times, thanks to the technology found within the Xbox Series X|S consoles, as well as increased population, traffic, and vegetation density and variety. Shadows, water reflections, and other elements now benefit from improved lighting quality, explosions are more detailed, and improvements have been made to GTA V’s anti-aliasing and motion blur. There are plenty of other smaller upgrades and improvements to be found, including as the inclusion of 3D audio and HDR options.While all of the upgrades are available in both single-player and GTA Online, it’s only the latter that has benefitted from any new content. Rockstar has left the single-player portion of Grand Theft Auto V almost untouched since its release in 2013, but GTA Online has benefitted from over 40 updates, ensuring the game stays as popular as ever. By purchasing GTA V or GTA Online, you’ll have access to all current and future updates.Returning players will see quite a few changes to GTA Online when booting it up on Xbox Series X|S consoles; first and foremost, the menu. Rockstar has redesigned the menu to allow you to easily hop into the game’s most popular content like Heists, Free Mode, Races, and more. New players, or those of you who fancy restarting your multiplayer exploits, will be able to access the brand-new Career Builder. The aim here is to give everyone a quick way to rise from the gutter to the penthouses in Los Santos. You’ll be given a choice of four Criminal Careers to work through — Executive, Gunrunner, Nightclub Owner, or Biker — as well as a new property, powerhouse vehicle, weapons, and a cool GTA$4,000,000.For players on Xbox Series X|S, you’ll have access to Hao’s Special Works, which gives you the ability to upgrade select vehicles with new modifications like acceleration boosters and Chameleon Paint. Hao will also offer a number of vehicles to use on the Test Track each week alongside the other offers at the Los Santos Car Meet. Hao’s Special Works is only available to users playing on Xbox Series X|S consoles, so unfortunately you won’t be able to indulge in the modifications on Xbox One. Please note: Migrating your Xbox One GTA Online profile to the Xbox Series X|S version will remove it from your account on the previous version! This is a one-time transfer and cannot be undone, so please make sure you’re wholeheartedly finished playing the Xbox One version before loading into GTA Online for Xbox Series X|S, unless you’re happy to start a new GTA Online profile, of course — Xbox 360 profiles cannot be migrated. You’ll be prompted to migrate you GTA Online profile upon signing into your Rockstar Social Club account on Xbox Series X|S. If you’d like to migrate your story progress as well, the Rockstar support site offers a fantastic guide on how to do it.There are some lucrative benefits associated with migrating your Xbox One GTA Online account to the Xbox Series X|S version. First of all, you’ll receive a modified version of the new Karin S95 for free once you’ve unlocked Hao’s Special Works, as well as exclusive Cool Noise HSW Racing Suit, Dark Purple Pearl Chameleon Paint, and Red Prismatic Pearl Chameleon Paint, which can be applied to your vehicles free of charge. For our TA community, though, there is also the small matter of the fact that all of the Grand Theft Auto V (Xbox One) achievements will carry over to the Grand Theft Auto V achievements list for Xbox Series X|S because they’re identical. That’s an extra 1,750 Gamerscore waiting to be earned just by signing into the new version if you already have the completion on XB1. Now, of course, the price tag is really only going to benefit the players that want to play the game on Xbox Series X|S, so it’s not exactly a cheap way of boosting your Gamerscore.
