Coming 13 years after its predecessor, Focus Entertainment’s Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is a hack ‘n’ slash shooting game (a hack ‘n’ shoot, if you will) that takes the cooperative third-person shooter fun of things like Helldivers 2 and combines it with the pure carnage found Bethesda’s Doom Eternal (and you know, Helldivers 2 already has quite a lot of carnage). Right now, the game is at the lowest price it’s ever seen in the six short months since its release, so if you’ve been meaning to pick it up, head over to Fanatical where you can buy it for just $39.39 / £35.19 – it’s lowest price ever and a better price than Steam has ever offered it for.
Where Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 shines the most is in its co-op experience. While certain multiplayer games can sometimes feel like playing with friends was an afterthought that doesn’t flow as smoothly as when you play on your own. Here, not only is it good fun to tear through the campaign with a couple of friends, but there’s also the option to play competitively in 6v6 PvP arenas.
A big part of what helps people to enjoy this as a single-player game as well is the fact that not only is there more variety in the combat than you might expect (some of the Space Marines’ Tyranid foes require an attack built around ranged attacks, whereas others need you to get up close and personal) but the ridiculous levels of flesh-tearing, bone-crunching violence is often very satisfying and entertaining to watch unfold as well.
In our Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2 review, Reid McCarter said, “The look, sound, and general feel of the game, especially the all-important design of murdering vicious marines and alien freaks en masse, are all enjoyable” and while he did find it to be a little lacking in the storyline department, that just makes the argument for buying it at a discount all the stronger.
Not only is the standard edition of the game on offer but so too are the Gold and Ultra Edition. The Gold Edition comes with a Season Pass and is also 36% off ($57.59 / £51.99), and so is the Ultra Edition (now priced $63.99 / £57.59), which in addition to the Season Pass, includes the Ultramarines Champion Pack, which gives you unique customization options for your marines.
This deal is available until Wednesday, 26 March, 2025. We don’t know when Space Marine 2 will next come down to this price again, but as this is the lowest price it has ever been, it is likely that you’ll have a relatively big wait on your hands before it’s this cheap again.
