GoldenEye 007 video game trademark renewal fuels remaster speculation

It’s been pretty quiet on the GoldenEye remaster front since we picked up the GoldenEye 007 achievements back in January, but a new trademark renewal has seemingly kicked the rumour mill back into high gear. Spotted by VGC, Danjaq, LLC, the holding company that owns a lot of James Bond trademarks, was granted a second extension for its GoldenEye trademark on March 15th. This trademark can be used in several classifications, including for “downloadable electronic game software.” Of course, trademark filings and renewals like this don’t mean much and often amount to nothing, but it has certainly got tongues wagging on the internet about the remaster once again. Back in February, VentureBeat’s Jeff Grubb said that Microsoft was gearing up to finally reveal the GoldenEye 007 remaster and that we could expect an announcement soon, a claim VGC also corroborated. However, due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Grubb now believes the remaster’s announcement has “probably been put on hold due to GoldenEye’s Soviet/Russian-military-heavy plot and characters.”Do you think this remaster will ever see the light of day? Let us know your thoughts down in the comments.
