Giants totally ripped off the Cubs in Kris Bryant trade

With Kris Bryant on the move to the San Francisco Giants, here is who the Chicago Cubs acquired in their trade.

Weeks ago, reports indicated that the Chicago Cubs were leaning towards selling at the MLB trade deadline. Well, they did just that by moving on from Joc Pederson, Andrew Chafin, Anthony Rizzo, Craig Kimbrel and Javier Baez. But Kris Bryant was the only remaining star player left on the trading block. But that all changed with less than 10 minutes remaining at the deadline.

According to ESPN MLB insider Jeff Passan, the Cubs have traded Bryant to the San Francisco Giants. The move does not necessarily come as a surprise, as the Giants are in first-place in the NL West and watched the Los Angeles Dodgers acquire Max Scherzer and Trea Turner from the Washington Nationals.

While the Cubs are in rebuild mode with their stars gone, who is heading over from San Francisco to the Windy City?

Who is heading over to the Cubs in the Kris Bryant trade?

According to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, the Cubs are receiving outfielder Alexander Canario (No. 9 prospect) and right-handed pitcher Caleb Kilian (No. 30 prospect) from San Francisco in exchange for Bryant.

Canario is 21-years-old, stands at 6-foot-1 and weighs in at 165-pounds. He was signed back in 2016 as a free agent out of the Dominican Republic, and is currently playing for Single-A San Jose, with an ETA for the majors set at 2023, per MLB.com.

Through 65 games this season, Canario is slashing .235/.325/.433 while recording nine home runs, 29 RBI, 43 runs scored and 56 hits.

Kilian was selected in the eighth-round of the 2019 MLB Draft out of Texas Tech. The right-hander is 24-years-old, stands at 6-foot-4 and weighs in at 180-pounds. Kilian is projected by MLB.com to make his major league debut in 2022.

Through 15 games across Single-A+ and Double-A, Kilian recorded a 2.13 ERA, a 0.81 WHIP and 96 strikeouts over 84.2 innings of work.

While trading the likes of Bryant, Baez, Rizzo and Kimbrel may sting, the Cubs have set themselves up well for the future with their returns.
