David Pollack believes his beloved Georgia football team will win the national championship.

With Week 1 of the college football season happening this weekend, Georgia football legend David Pollack made a bold prediction about his alma mater on the set of ESPN’s College GameDay last Saturday.

Pollack has been bullish on the Dawgs all offseason long. He has predicted Georgia to beat Clemson in Week 1 up in Charlotte. While it isn’t surprising he is also picking his alma mater to win the national title, he does not expect them to win the SEC.

On Saturday’s Week 0 episode of College GameDay, Pollack picked Georgia to lose to Alabama in the SEC Championship Game but has the Dawgs redeeming themselves in the National Championship Game.

If Pollack’s prediction does come true, the first disciple Nick Saban will lose to may be Kirby Smart.

Is Pollack out of bounds to pick Georgia to win it all for the first time since 1980? No, he is not. Georgia has recruited at a top-five level in the country throughout Smart’s tenure. The Dawgs begin the year ranked No. 5 overall. While Clemson is a brutal first matchup, the only other ranked team on their schedule before the SEC Championship would be vs. Florida down in Jacksonville.

For Pollack’s bold prediction to come true, Georgia must navigate its regular season to perfection at 12-0. Simply, an undefeated SEC team playing in the conference championship game gets into the playoff no matter what happens at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in early December. However, no team has had Georgia’s number quite like Alabama has since Saban arrived in Tuscaloosa in 2007.

Georgia may have what it takes to win it all, but let’s see if the Dawgs can even beat Clemson first.
