The Coalition revealed two tech demos during GDC 2021, showcasing a character rendering test and an ‘Alpha Point’ technical demo using Unreal Engine 5 on Xbox Series X.Epic’s Unreal Engine 5 is out and in the hands of developers — albeit in the form of an Early Access preview until 2022 — and many developers are wasting no time in putting the program through its paces. The Coalition are the next to show off an early look at what the team can achieve using the engine and the power of the Xbox Series X. These two videos were both shown during GDC 2021 and are entirely created using Unreal Engine 5.The first video highlights character models and the realism that this revised version of Epic’s program can achieve. Individual strands of hair can be seen; wrinkles, blemishes, threads, stitching, and more are all brought to life in incredible detail. The second video is a technical test titled Alpha Point and is running on an Xbox Series X. This incredible footage gives us a better look at the real-time lighting and reflections that can be achieved. We thought Gears 5 was a stunning looking game when it dropped, and now Unreal Engine 5 used in conjunction with Xbox Series X looks like the team will be able to set a whole new standard. We previously covered Unreal Engine 5 and all the assets the software offers developers.Does this make you hungry for The Coalition’s next project? Let us know down below!
