Gamers Heroes’ 2024 Game of the Year Awards

Byadmin

Dec 31, 2024

If nothing else, 2024 was an interesting year in the gaming space.

While there were a number of…happenings in game development side and countless hot takes (just ask Smith), there was also a lot of good as well.

Whether you loved Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League or couldn’t get enough of Webfishing, 2024 had a little bit of something for all types of gamers.

Smith, Johnny, and Casey are ending the year with Gamers Heroes’ 2024 Game of the Year Awards to give credit where credit’s due. These five titles not only left a lasting impact when all was said and done, they also sparked joy Marie Kondo-style – and that’s what gaming is all about!

Here are Gamers Heroes’ 2024 Game of the Year Awards, in no particular order…

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth

Bringing good luck, warm beaches, and Danny Trejo to the space, SEGA and Ryu ga Gotoku’s Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth started the year out strong.

Players were treated to a story that featured both Ichiban Kasuga and OG protagonist Kazuma Kiryu as they hit up both Japan and Hawaii in what amounted to the meatest adventure in the series to date.

Combat-wise, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth’s “Live Command RPG” Battle System always kept things satisfying, complete with countless classes to explore. That’s not to mention the personality traits that let players go out and truly expore its world.

On that note, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth had a wealth of activities to do. From Dondoko Island island management to pizza delivery Crazy Taxi-style in Crazy Delivery, we truly got lost in its world.

With winter back once more, we eagerly await our next sunny adventure with Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii.

“2024 picks up right where 2023 left off with a banger of a title in Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth. Anyone who likes big, meaty RPGs should give this one a whirl.” – Johnny Hurricane, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth Review

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is available for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Dragon’s Dogma II

There are a number of worlds that players can get lost in, but Capcom dared to be different with the hotly-anticipated Dragon’s Dogma II earlier this year – and they delivered.

A true jouney in every sense of the world, Dragon’s Dogma II makes players earn everything and fight for it with all of their might. Convenience is thrown out the window as players fail and struggle.

However, in struggle lies growth, and that’s where Dragon’s Dogma II truly shines. While a slow burn, everything from Dragon’s Dogma II’s pawn system to its persistent stories are some of the most satisfying we have ever experienced.

“Dragon’s Dogma 2 feels like the first proper RPG I’ve played in years. Its world is captivating, filled with stories both told and waiting to be found. This is a must-play for RPG fans who’ve grown tired of the hand-holding nature of modern games and just want to get lost somewhere magical and quite frankly, brutal as hell.” – Blaine Smith, Dragon’s Dogma 2 Review

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is available for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Path of Exile 2

Featuring 240 active skill gems and 200 support gems, Grinding Gear Games went big with their action RPG follow-up Path of Exile 2.

This title does everything right as players explore the land of Wraeclast. New to this release are 12 charactger classes (out of a total of 36 Ascendancy Classes), a New Skill Gem System, new items, and a chance to dual-specizlie one’s Passive Skill Tree with a staggering 1,500 skills.

While it came out earlier in December, we just can’t get enough of Path of Exile 2, and will be playing it religiously in the months to come.

Path of Exile 2 is available in Early Access for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Star Wars Outlaws

Star Wars meets open world with the release of Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft’s Star Wars Outlaws.

Following the adventures of Kay Vess and her cute and furry companion Nix, Star Wars Outlaws consistently kept thigns friend with new characters and planets blended into old that just felt good.

While it can be easy to be burnt out with open world titles as of late, we have never felt a Star Wars video game as authentic as Star Wars Outlaws.

On top of that, Star Wars Outlaws is a looker. While we have long since finished the title proper, we are still drawn to fighting stuff in space, for no other reason than it just looks amazing.

“Massive Entertainment created breathtaking environments across the galaxy, delivered a fast-paced combat system true to the scoundrel style, and crafted a story that rivals the modern movies. Star Wars Outlaws is, simply put, the Star Wars game of a generation.” – Blaine Smith, Star Wars Outlaws Review

Star Wars Outlaws is available for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle

As we said in our review, “Indiana Jones and The Great Circle goes to show that MachineGames has an eye for fortune and glory.”

The storied archaeologist has fallen on hard times in the movie space as of late, but this new Indy outing brought back the excitement we so desperately craved.

Featuirng a first person perspective, combat packs a punch – complete with a whip that can disarm, trip, slap, and distract that makes it an unstoppable force in due time.

As we traveled through Indiana Jones and the Great Circle’s world, our trips to the Vatican, Gizeh, and other locales kept us truly immersed with its quests, relics, mysteries, and other spots.

Of course, an adventure as grand as this one needs puzzles, and we greatly appreciated how Indiana Jones and the Great Circle kept us thinking. We wouldn’t have it any other way!

“Indiana Jones and The Great Circle goes to show that MachineGames has an eye for fortune and glory. Not only is this title another great addition to Xbox Game Pass, it’s an absolute must for fans of the infamous Indy.” – Johnny Hurricane, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Review

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is available for the Xbox Series X|S and PC.
