G2 Esports officially decided to join the Dota 2 scene after years of being one of the biggest names in other eSports.

It’s always fun when the Dota 2 eSports scene gets a new team/player/organization because it allows the game to grow. Even though a lot of people have been criticizing the current state of the Dota 2 world, G2 Esports, one of the biggest names in eSports, decided to join the scene.

G2 Esports joins Dota 2

We definitely did not expect this to happen, but G2 Esports actually decided to add a Dota 2 team to its organization. This means that the organization now has a representative in titles like League of Legends, Counter-Strike 2, Rocket League, hearthstone, Rainbow Six Siege, iRacing, and Fortnite.

Following the recent announcement on Twitter, it became clear that G2 Esports will now become a part of Dota 2. The organization released a three-minute video where it became clear that there won’t be a new roster. Instead, G2 Esports will partner with Invictus Gaming, the team has gone through a lot of Dota 2 roster changes lately and has a really strong team right now.

Besides entering the Dota 2 world, G2 also enters the Chinese region because none of its other teams are based there. Following the changes, the name of the new Invictus Gaming teal will be G2.iG. What’s interesting is that the post on Twitter gained a lot more views than usual, which means that the community was more surprised.

What’s next?

After we’ve learned that G2 Esports joins Dota 2, G2.iG will take part in ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023. This will be the last big tournament of the year, and it will include a lot of the big Dota 2 teams. As for the new roster, it has the following players:

  • Du “Monet” Peng
  • Cheng “NothingToSay” Jin Xiang
  • Thiay “JT-” Jun Wen
  • Ye “BoBoKa” Zhibiao
  • Yap “xNova” Jian Wei

Something that may have surprised a lot of Dota 2 fans is that many other teams and organizations were impressed with G2 Esports’s decision to join Dota 2. That said, not all of them were surprised because there were rumors that this move would happen. Ame said something about it on his stream last month, but we had to wait until December for the official move to take place.
