In Frostpunk 2 there are many things to take into account to ensure that your community survives and one of these is the cold. For this reason, you must learn to manage the game mechanics related to the Frostpunk 2 generator.

In this article, we will tell you everything you need to know about the generator, how it works, what its upgrades are and more. In this way, the frost that is the background but also the worst enemy, will not be so fearsome.

How Does the Generator Work in Frostpunk 2?

One of the first things the game will teach you to do is to manage the basic functions of the generator. In fact, one of your first goals will be to activate a generator to create heat. At first you won’t have to worry about many things, but as you progress through the game and have more buildings and structures to heat, things will change.

In any case, the first thing you will have to do to activate a generator is to frostbreak the area that leads to an oil field (later you will also be able to use other fuels). Once you have done this, the next step is to build an Extraction District that will actually extract the oil that will then be used to generate heat. As a bonus tip, we invite you to use hubs where you can store the oil, so as not to run out.

These are the basic mechanics of the generator, but they will gradually become more complex. However, do not forget to manually turn on the generator (it is not enough to serve it with oil, you have to click on the “turn on” button) and keep an eye on the indicator on the left. It is very important because it allows you to understand if you are giving enough resources to your generator. The line inside it can be of different colors:

  • Gray: means that the requirement is satisfied
  • Red: means that you do not have enough resources
  • Gold: means that you have more resources than necessary

In addition, you can also notice a second indicator. This is the one that can be used to override the generator and will allow you to increase its efficiency. This can be a temporary solution to combat the cold of Frostpunk 2, but do not forget to deactivate the function if you do not want to create malfunctions.

As we have already mentioned, the generator needs gasoline to be used. At the beginning, your main resource will be Coal, but gradually you can also use other fuels to increase the effectiveness. In case you have different fuels, the most effective one will be used first. This will help make the generator more efficient.

Frostpunk 2 Upgrades

Once you reach a certain point in the game, you will have a choice: how to upgrade the generator. There are two different paths that are mutually exclusive, so think carefully about your choice. You can decide to take the path dedicated to Progress or the one dedicated to Adaption. Whichever you choose, keep in mind that it will change the way you can manage the generator in Frostpunk 2.

If you decide to opt for Adaption, know that you can use different types of fuel (oil, coil, and steam); while if you decide to choose Progress, you can only use oil but in a more efficient way. The choice is yours. Of course, keep in mind that you can research and develop upgrades for the generator that are only linked to the chosen path.

In fact, another important thing to take into account is the research you can conduct. In Frostpunk 2, in fact, you will have the possibility to research new structures or upgrades that can (literally) save your life. There are several upgrades for the generator that can be useful to make it as efficient as possible, so that you no longer have to worry about the cold.

Finally, we also recommend that you research several upgrades for Extraction Districts, as they are able to produce more resources, for example, which translates into a greater possibility of satisfying the needs of your city. So, ultimately, we can say that it is very important to dedicate yourself to the operation of recirca in Frostpunk 2, as it allows you to unlock things that can be very useful for the operation of the generator (and not only).
