The PSVR camera adapter for PS5, which allows players to use their original VR headsets with the PS5, will be discontinued very soon. Sony had been offering the adapter for free to PSVR players around the world since 2020, but will no longer be doing that effective November 26, 2024, or until supplies last.
PSVR doesn’t work on PS5 without the camera adapter
If you somehow missed out on ordering the adapter or end up picking up the original PSVR for use with the PS5 later down the line, you’ll have the option to purchase third-party adapters. Without one, the original PSVR won’t work with the PS5.
As a reminder, the adapter is only compatible with camera models CUH-ZEY1 or CUH-ZEY2. You also can’t use PS5’s HD camera with PSVR 1.
If you’re still interested in requesting a camera, head over to the PlayStation website.
Lack of backwards compatibility with the PSVR 1 has long vexed players. Many have theorized that PSVR 2 sales would have benefitted had the current-gen headset been compatible with the original library. Considering VR is still niche, we can’t help but agree with this.
The PSVR 2 was recently expanded to PC with the help of an adapter.
