Epic Games has introduced a new game mode to Fortnite called Imposters that is very similar to the viral hit indie game Among Us. Fortnite Impostors is a mode for up to ten players, with eight taking on the role of Agents who have to keep an area known as The Bridge in top shape by completing assignments such as “calibrating chests and llamas, repairing the Battle Bus, and delivering Storm reports for analysis.” The other two players play as Impostors who, to win, have to take control of The Bridge by eliminating enough Agents. For the Agents to win, they need to complete all their assignments or vote out the Impostors (sure sounds like Among Us, right?). Impostors also have assignments to complete, so they can earn other players’ trust and blend in, and also have powers where they can freeze the progress of Agents’ assignments and even relocate them to other locations on The Bridge.While Among Us wasn’t the first game in the social deception genre, it’s hard not to draw parallels between it and Fortnite Impostors. It’s hard to know if Epic Games would have introduced the mode if it wasn’t for Among Us’ popularity. Some of the Among Us team over at developer Innersloth are also disappointed with the move. Among Us community director Victoria Tran wrote on Twitter, “It would’ve been really, really cool to collab. Like game mechanics fine, those shouldn’t be gatekept, but at the very least, even different themes or terminology makes things more interesting?”Fortnite Impostors is available to play now.
