Dark Passenger, a new Warsaw-based studio formed by ex-CD Projekt developers, is working on an action-focused game set in feudal Japan and built using Unreal Engine 5 for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC.The team at Dark Passenger is made up of new developers and experienced industry veterans who have worked on the likes of CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077. The studio’s first project, according to the Dark Passenger website, is currently in its first production phase and will be “an immersive, dark world full of secrets, unusual characters, and conflicts” set in feudal Japan and built using Unreal Engine 5. It’s still early days for the project so there isn’t a release window yet, but it is expected to launch on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.Polish studio Dark Passenger’s debut game”In the Land of the Rising Sun, a time of fear came when an unnamed invader overthrew the ruling shogun and appropriated his throne. Anyone who dared to oppose him not only failed but also, against his will, joined his ranks. While the usurper’s army grows in strength, his actions are watched from hiding by cunning rulers of the shadow world. In order to learn the origin and motives of the aggressor, secret houses training assassins send troops of their assassins to find artefacts belonging to him hiding extraordinary power.”We’ll step into the shoes of shinobi and kunoichi to battle it out with the usurper’s forces and other assassins vying for control of the artefacts. By taking advantage of the game’s locomotion system, we’ll be able to dynamically climb flat walls, use yari spears as pole-vaults, sneak through temples, hide under the floors of huts, and traverse rooftops in pursuit of our prize. According to the game’s description, the world will use vertical terrain to “open up endless possibilities to move,” and a dynamic weather system will offer sudden downpours of rain, wind, and fog in procedurally generated environments.”We are fascinated by interpersonal interactions, alliances, daring confrontations and unexpected twists and turns,” the game’s description reads. “To make each game unique and surprising, we use many procedural solutions. Although all players will have the same goal, each time it will require a change of tactics and moving along different paths.”The currently untitled project will offer online multiplayer, co-op, and PvE/PvP modes with a focus on both cooperative and competitive gameplay. You’ll have the ability to fully customise your character with equipment, skills, and weaponry from the feudal period of Japan, such as katanas, kusarigama chains, kunai throwing knives, short tanto, shurikens, wakizashi swords, and more. Additionally, the ability to build your very own Dojo will be available, which can be used by both yourself and your friends to train. Dark Passenger’s upcoming title has definitely grabbed our attention, but we’d love to know your thoughts on this interesting-sounding game. Drop a comment below!
