While Season 7: Turning Point seems to be going over well with players working through the Battlefield 2042 achievements, which is yet to make it onto our list of the best FPS games on Xbox, things aren’t as positive for the rest of the franchise. EA is shutting down Battlefield studio Ridgeline Games, and Marcus Lehto doesn’t have “anything positive to say about EA.”Former Battlefield director Marcus Lehto criticizes EAAfter co-founding Ridgeline Games in 2021, Marcus Lehto left the company last month, followed by EA’s announcement that Ridgeline was being shut down amid mass layoffs. With Lehto at the helm as narrative director, Ridgeline was working on the next Battlefield game’s narrative and character development. It will now be folded into Ripple Effect with Criterion’s Danny Isaac and Darren White overseeing the upcoming Battlefield game’s single-player content.Since his departure, Lehto has been somewhat quiet, but on Friday Lehto posted on X, saying, “Not been saying much here since I don’t have anything positive to say about EA, my recent departure, and how so many, including my team, are suffering due to the industry sweeping layoffs.”Along with the announcement that it has closed Ridgeline, EA also announced that around 5% of its workforce (670 employees) have been laid off, and a Star Wars FPS from Respawn Entertainment has been canceled as the publisher switches its focus to its biggest IPs.In other news, EA is shutting down the servers for several older games later this month.
