FNCS Chapter 3 Season 1 Finals Recap & Results

Mar 7, 2022

Competitive Fortnite crowns seven Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS) winners.

Epic Games essentially hit the reset button in Chapter 3 Season 1 of Fortnite. Alongside a new map and weapons, Epic unveiled Duos as the primary tournament format in 2022. That meant players had to find the perfect complement to their play style. After multiple Cash Cups, Qualifiers and the Semi-Finals, it all came down to the C3:S1 Finals.

Fifty Duos across seven worldwide regions spent the last two days competing in the latest FNCS. Epic provided more than $3M USD in prize money to open 2022 and, of course, the coveted in-game Axe of Champions. Day one featured the first of six matches, and all the storylines concluded on Sunday.

Let’s see how each region played out in the FNCS Chapter 3 Season 1 Final.

Europe

Hen Clutches Late to Capture FNCS C3:S1

Europe was entirely up for grabs following the first day of action. Pinq and Anas sat atop the leaderboard, but as we’ve learned, no lead is safe in competitive Fortnite. Day two showcased the raw talent that exists in Europe. The region’s best Duos traded Victory Royales as it came down to the final match.

The door remained open for every team, but it was the fourth-place team on day one that displayed the utmost determination. Former FNCS winners Queasy and GUILD Hen came into day two with an ideal strategy—make it to the late game and farm placement points. This plan worked, but the final match would determine Queasy and Hen’s position on the leaderboard.

Hen delivered perhaps the most exciting finish we’ve ever seen in competitive Fortnite. After losing Queasy early, his teammate remained alive while compiling eliminations and avoiding enemy fire. Hen secured the high ground late, eliminated four opponents and won FNCS C3:S1 in style. As a result, Hen captured his third Axe of Champions and Queasy his second.

Kiryache & Stormyrite Improve from Ninth to Second

It’s not often that competitive Fortnite tugs at your heartstrings. Those following the war between Russia and Ukraine have seen a glimpse into the destruction that’s unfolded. Ukrainian player Stormyrite was one of the thousands caught in the middle of the conflict. The former FNCS Champion could only wait and hope that he’d find his way to salvation.

Stormyrite eventually made it out of Ukraine in the nick of time. He and his Russian teammate Kiryache had the chance to win another Axe of Champions during a stressful period. The two players sat in ninth after six opening matches. Day two saw Stormyrite and Kiryache combine for 20 eliminations and 142 points—good enough for second place.

The Ukrainian/Russian Duo delivered 274 points across two days, netting them $100K USD each.

TaySon & Th0masHD Finish in Third

Another highly regarded team — Falcon TaySon and AST Th0masHD — were within striking distance after day one. Considering TaySon’s success in the FNCS Finals, many foresaw him and Th0masHD rallying back to win. The two Euros ultimately earned a Victory Royale on day two. Unfortunately, an early exit in match number 12 sealed their fate.

TaySon and Th0masHD compiled 273 points overall, landing just below Kiryache and Stormyrite. Still, it’s a bright finish for two players that always seem to find a way in the FNCS Finals. They collected $75K USD each for their efforts.

  • 1st: GUILD Hen & Queasy — 319 points ($300,000 / $150,000 each + Axe of Champions)
  • 2nd: MG kiryache & FS Stormyrite — 274 points ($200,000 / $100,000 each)

NA East

Bugha & Mero Continue Their Dominance

Bugha and Mero delivered a strong finish after leading on day one. The two players were somehow more consistent on day two with the Axe of Champions and a share of $3M USD on the line. Across the final six matches, the 2019 World Cup Champion and multiple-time FNCS winner managed an average placement of 5.50–the highest mark of any Duo. Add 23 eliminations, and you have the makings of an FNCS Championship-winning team.

It was a legacy-defining day as Bugha and Mero walked away with a third straight FNCS victory and $65K USD per player. There’s no telling what more these two could accomplish moving forward. It was a dominant showing and perhaps a taste of what lies ahead.

Spayde & Chimp Finish Strong

OT Spayde and Chimp stood four points behind Bugha and Mero on day one. The unexpected contenders needed an equally productive showing across their final six matches if they hoped to win. Unfortunately, that did not occur, but Spayde and Chimp remained strong on day two.

The unlikely pair compiled 54 eliminations overall—the most of any other team. Spayde and Chimp stayed consistent throughout both days and were rewarded with a runner-up result. While they won’t hoist the Axe of Champions, $45K USD each is a nice consolation prize.

A Leaderboard of Studs

The top 15 in NA East featured some of the names we expected to see. Former FNCS Champions Dukez, Acorn, Deyy and Userz are a few that stick out. None could ultimately compare to what Bugha and Mero brought to the table. Regardless, if the Chapter 3 Season 1 Finals are any indication, 2022 has a lot in store for competitive Fortnite.

NA West

Favs & Snacky Come Back to Win

Like many other regions, NA West was ripe for the taking on Sunday. Caleb and Knzo maintained a slight lead heading into day two, but the leaderboard was too close for comfort. Former FNCS Champions 33 Favs and TSM FTX Snacky were in seventh after day one with plenty of Fortnite left to play.

Favs and Snacky plodded along, slowly creeping up the leaderboard on day two. Heading into the final match, several teams were in the running. It came down to the final end game; three teams atop the leaderboard stayed in until the very end. Ultimately, it was Favs and Snacky that took control. The pair navigated low-ground beautifully and found some critical eliminations late in the going.

As the two other contenders fell, Favs and Snacky ended their impressive run with a second-place finish in game 12 and a tournament win overall. This triumph marks their second time holding the Axe of Champions following their victory in Chapter 2 Season 8. Favs and Snacky also bagged $22.5K USD each.
