The sturgeon is a rare fish, meaning it’s not the easiest to come across, but there is a lot rarer out there!
Where To Find A Sturgeon
You can find one lurking in Snowcap Isle, which you can get to with a boat. To purchase or spawn one, speak to the Shipwright NPC. Unlike many other fish, a sturgeon can be found regardless of the weather or time of day. So you don’t have to worry about the conditions you fish in.
If you’re struggling you catch one, make sure to use seaweed as bait. This is a sturgeon’s favorite, and it will improve your chances of catching one. To get bait, you can purchase Bait Crates for 120C$. Or, you can get one when completing a quest from the Angler.
Which Rod Should I Use?
You don’t need a specific rod to catch this fish, but since the largest sturgeon caught weighed 115.8 kg, you’ll need a rod strong enough to handle it. Let me give you some recommendations, and why they’re good choices.
The Mythical Rod is one of the best in the entire game! Although a costly 110,000C$ to purchase, it has a lure speed of 75% and 45% luck. Best of all, it can hold 2,000kg.
However, my favorite is the Fungal Rod. Even better… it’s free! All you have to do is give the Agaric NPC an alligator in Mushgrove Swamp. It has a 10% lure, can hold 200kg, and has 45% luck. Even better, the spores on the side have the chance to give you an additional luck boost for 45 seconds, which makes all the difference! Not bad for a free rod.
