This weekend’s Final Fantasy 14 Fan Festival looks to have been an emotional one, as the game’s producer Naoki Yoshida was brought to tears by none other than the creator of Final Fantasy himself, Hironobu Sakaguchi.

Yoshida, possibly better known by the affectionate nickname he’s adopted Yoshi-P, is quite clearly the new golden boy at Square Enix these days. After all, he is the one that brought Final Fantasy 14 back from the dead with its now iconic reboot. He of course also produced the latest numbered entry in the series, Final Fantasy 16, which has generally been a hit with fans – and it’s been a hit with Sakaguchi too. The Final Fantasy creator made an appearance at Final Fantasy 14 Fan Fest over the weekend, and even managed to make Yoshi-P cry.

“I’m going to thank you back for making Final Fantasy even better moving forward,” were the words Sakaguchi shared with Yoshi-P that got him to cry, helped of course by everyone in the crowd cheering them both on – you can see that for yourself in the video above. Coming from the person who started the series itself probably meant quite a lot to Yoshida, leading him to say, “I never expected that Sakaguchi-san would be making me cry.”

It’s obviously quite a touching moment between two Final Fantasy figureheads, and feels like it fits quite well into the overall spirit of the series too. Of course, Yoshida’s tears weren’t the only thing that were shown off at the event. Quite notably, FF14 will be getting a crossover event with FF16, which probably wasn’t too hard considering Yoshida’s involvement in both. You can also expect a Final Fantasy 11 crossover raid too, as well as, bafflingly, a Fall Guys crossover (take a shot for every crossover there is). And of course, the next expansion Dawntrail will be out next year too, so safe to say, it’s a good time to be a FF14 fan.
