Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. This week is the Tokyo Game Show, so I have a lot of preparation to do. First one I’ve attended since 2019. Still, duty calls, and one of my duties is to find some nice updates for you too look at. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!
AFK Arena, Free
The big news on this game is that Witcher 3 is going to be crossing over into it later this month. But there are some nice goodies to check out now courtesy of its most recent update. A new hero with a new Bountiful Trials event, a new Vault of Time season, a new Battle Wager feature in the Cursed Realm, a new item type, some new quests, and a bunch of other tweaks and adjustments. Might as well dip in and get ready for that Witcher event while you’re at it.
Marvel Contest of Champions, Free
There seems to be more tomfoolery afoot in the Contest of Champions. Well, more like Kangfoolery, but you know what I mean. Carina starts to rebuild the Battlerealm, but there’s a spy in her midst. Who? You’ll have to play and see. Also in this update: Titania sets ups a Show of Strength, the Eternity of Pain reaches the Bargaining stage, She-Hulk has a grudge match with her rival, and Battlegrounds finally gets its official release. Somehow, Ant-Man has been updated?!
Patterned,
We’ve got a bunch of Apple Arcade updates to scope out today. Here’s the first, which adds a real-time multiplayer mode to Patterned. No more waiting around for your foolish friends to finish their turns. Take action! Fortune favors the bold! Aside from that, some improvements have been made to pattern downloading, offline mode, and the Soccer Space puzzle. Apparently that one was appearing in monochrome and shouldn’t have been. All fixed up now.
Frogger and the Rumbling Ruins,
Sometimes I think about how amazing it is that Frogger has maintained any kind of popularity given how, er, vintage the brand is. But then I remember that the original game was really awesome, so it all makes sense. In this new update to his latest adventure, the Flame Ruins dungeon has been added to the game. Team up with Axol and see what you can find in this all-new fifth dungeon. Records have been added to Newt’s shop, allowing you to collect and listen music of classic titles. There are a few other bits and bobs here, but nothing too major. Now go explore those ruins before Frogger is late for work.
tint.,
tintdot. tintfullstop. tintperiod. I don’t know how to say this game’s name. But it has a new update that adds Book VII, with thirty spiffy new puzzles to paint your way through. There are a bunch of new puzzles in the Zen Book, and a new hidden achievement to unlock. Some tweaks have also been made to existing levels based on the feedback the developers have received from players. Hopefully that will make things more comfortable for those new to the game.
Mini Motorways,
It feels like it’s been a bit since the last Mini Motorways update, but here we are. Head to Lisbon, Portugal and try to manage the traffic across the bridges and coastline of the beautiful capital. This is a bit of a tricky one, but it’s a lot of fun. Toss in some bug fixes and performance improvements, and that’s that. I don’t know if I wrote enough there for the page formatting to work, so I’m distracting you with this sentence to carry out that dark purpose.
Outlanders,
Hm. This is an interesting one. As of this update, a new way of playing has been introduced in the form of Outlanders Chronicles. They’re self-contained stories that play out across six new levels. This first volume is called Heir of the Roads and follows Fairuza on a journey through a deadly desert. Will she survive her journey? That’s up to you to sort out. Some new customization options have been added to the sandbox mode in this version as well.
Zookeeper World,
This latest version of Zookeeper World adds a feature that I’m frankly surprised wasn’t there from the start. You can now visit the zoos of other players and see how they have things decorated. There are also ten new puzzle stages to play, plus some new items in the Ticket Exchange area. An additional minigame, titled Rabbit Rope Rock-Paper-Scissors, has been added to the Minigame Shop as well. It’s… well, it’s exactly what it sounds like. But hey, you can win some coins. That’s nice, right?
Fighting Fantasy Classics, Free
Whenever there is a new update to Fighting Fantasy Classics, I hope that it means a new book has been added to the library via IAP. And this time, it was a bingo! Ian Livingstone’s Assassins of Allansia is set between Port of Peril and Deathtrap Dungeon, and for fans of Fighting Fantasy‘s lore it is an absolute treat. You’re tasked with surviving a month on a dangerous island, a feat that becomes all the more difficult when you realize the place is full of assassins looking to collect a bounty on your head. Can you turn the tables on them and come out alive? Update your app, buy this book, and give it a shot. I’ll give this the coveted UMMSotW award for this week, as it seems like a comic book plot come to life.
Fire Emblem Heroes, Free
I’ll wrap things up with a quick look at the latest version of Nintendo’s long-running mobile Fire Emblem game. We’re past the point of seeing regular big updates to this game, but the content trickle remains steady at least. There are some new skills for Legendary Hero Julia and Mythic Hero Sothis, and six more heroes can improve their weapon skills in the Weapon Refinery. There are also some new character-specific weapon skills for Haar, which is good news for fans of Haar. He’s got a dragon, what’s not to like?
That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
