How do you get the FF14 Dawntrail free Fantasia? With the graphical overhaul coming to Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail, director and producer Naoki Yoshida promised a free Fantasia for every player to adjust their character’s looks. Be it to change some of the minor details, or change into the newly added Female Hrothgar, everything is possible with a sip of Fantasia.
Unlike previous Final Fantasy 14 expansions, this free Fantasia is tied to a quest. Every player can access it as long as they’ve completed the level 17 main scenario quest The Scions of the Seventh Dawn. It doesn’t take long to unlock and you’ll head into the expansion with a new look before you unlock the new FF14 Viper or FF14 Pictomancer quests.
To obtain your free Fantasia, you need to head on over to Ul’dah’s Steps of Thal (X:13.4 Y:9.2) and talk to the Medicine Merchant and pick up the quest “Bottled Fantasy”. After a short exchange, you’re asked to head to Ul’dah’s Steps of Nald (X:10.3, Y:9.2) and talk to the Diminutive Gladiator. Handover the item and you can return to the Medicine Merchant to hand in the quest and get your reward: the Fantasia potion.
How to use the FF14 Fantasia potion
The Fantasia potion allows players to change any aspect of their character. Everything from your character’s race and patron deity to face, voice, and eye color can be edited without affecting gameplay or your character’s progression.
To use it, simply select the Fantasia potion in your inventory and select ‘Use’ via the sub-menu. But you’ll need to take off every piece of equipment apart from your weapon for it to work.
Afterwards, log out and select the re-edit character option in the sub-menu next to your character’s name. If you’re unhappy with how your character looks outside of the character creator, you can re-edit your appearance for up to an hour after you first changed it. You can always change minor things like your hair, hair color, eyebrows, and makeup at the Aesthetician in almost any Inn.
Fantasia not working?
Sometimes, especially if the servers are under heavy load, you won’t be able to change your appearance after consuming your Fantasia. Double-check first if you’ve unequipped everything except for your weapon and check again.
At peak server times, it can happen that the game cannot retrieve character information in the character selection screen. Any details will be marked by question marks, and you’ll only be able to select your character name. If that happens, you can not re-edit your character’s appearance. This is often fixed by going back to the title screen and selecting start a few times until your character data is retrieved, but sometimes you’ll have to wait until your server is no longer congested.
