ROME: Total War has released a massive free update on Android. Feral Interactive dropped the Imperium Update, bringing in a bunch of gameplay tweaks, control improvements and quality-of-life features.

If you play this classic strategy game that landed on Android in 2018, you’ll get to see many improvements and new features in the game. The same update is coming next week for the standalone expansions Barbarian Invasion and Alexander as well.

What Does Imperium Update Bring to ROME: Total War?

The update pulls in some of the best features from Feral’s more recent mobile releases, like Total War: MEDIEVAL II and EMPIRE. There are three new control options in ROME: Total War now viz Positioning Mode, Melee Mode and Automatic Deselection.

These new modes give you better command over units and make battles more precise. You can now simply tap and hold to move your army, agents, or fleets instead of dragging paths manually.

The new Positioning Mode lets you fine-tune unit placements by tapping and holding. While the Group Grid feature makes managing unit groups easier with a collapsible selection menu. Melee Mode lets ranged units switch to close combat when needed.

One of the biggest changes is Command Slowdown, which automatically slows the game down when issuing complex orders. And for the first time, keyboard and mouse support has been added for Android (and iPad).

The minimap in ROME: Total War has been redesigned to feel more like the one in MEDIEVAL II. It now has smoother zooming and navigation. A new reset button lets you quickly snap back to the default view.

The update is already live, so if you own ROME: Total War on Android, you can install it now via the Google Play Store. Barbarian Invasion and Alexander will get their updates next week, so check them out too once they are live.
