With a new expansion, comes more levels, and leaves many of us asking what the fastest way to level in War Within is.
Normally, when you head into an expansion, the idea is simple. Go through the big portal and do all the quests. Job done, max level achieved, guide over. Times have changed, and WoW is much more nuanced than that now. Now, while you can simply just “follow the main quest” why not live a little and take on a few alternative ideas?
The Fastest way to Level in War Within
Do the Main Quests
Look, we’ll just get it out of the way now. Blizzard’s quest design has improved so much at this point that simply following the story from point A to point B is one of the best options for speed. War Within once again improves things, and streamlines the process even more. We don’t have a total grasp yet on the story as some of it is locked off, however.
Dungeon Grinding
It seems to lose its effectiveness with every expansion, however, if you play with a group of friends it’s still a solid way to pass the night away. One positive aspect of dungeon grinding is that you can get a bunch of gear before you hit 80. Again, it’s not the fastest if you do it solo, but it can be a good thing to do as you level to cap off zone quests.
Side Quest to Glory
Alongside the main story quests, it’s also worth doing a number, or all of the side quests as you level. These mostly act as ways to flesh out the story of a specific zone or a group of people. These are also great for farming reputation and getting something out of it alongside the rep.
An alternative way to do this, and one I’ve done myself in the past is to just do side quests for a faction you enjoy. Again, if you’re going to quest as your main thing, it’s worth picking up all the side quests anyway and just doing the ones that don’t take you away from the main quest path.
Grinding Mobs and Minerals
Grinding is a fair way to level, especially for those who want to chill out and watch a TV show at the same time. Neither of these methods is fast, but they are fairly easy and great for people who don’t want to quest again. While grinding mobs probably isn’t the play, farming mining and herb nodes is a decent way to level, especially if you do it on an alt with rest XP.
Fastest Class for Leveling
Most classes are decently easy to level, with the obvious caveat being if you play DPS you’ll be faster regardless. However, there are a few classes that do best.
Hunter is pretty much the “beginner” class when it comes to leveling. Your pet will get you out of 90% of situations, providing the AI isn’t what got you into it to begin with. Hunter is fairly simple, your pet will tank most mobs and you just use your 2 or 3 abilities to take down anything.
Warlock – It’s like a Hunter, but it’s just more fun and a bit harder. There’s a bit more going on with Warlock, with more abilities and more “going on”. Their kit is slightly more “complicated” but most of what you’ll use when leveling is fairly simple, the rest is just fluff.
Paladin – Retribution Paladin is a powerful melee monster, capable of dealing huge damage, while also able to escape dire situations. While the Bubble + Hearth combo isn’t needed most of the time, Paladin’s are one of the best classes for recovering from a sticky situation. With healing, shields, stuns, and any other tool you can think of, you’ll be safe on a Paladin.
Things to Do Before War Within
Consumables
Consumables are a great, and sometimes costly, way of getting a slight edge while leveling. From Goblin Glider Kits, and Gunshoes for faster travel to Draenic Swiftness and Skystep for, well also faster travel but in a bottle. You can also chow down on a food buff, or stick on a Phial/Flask to give yourself a nice little stats boost.
