Far Cry 6 won’t support ray tracing on Xbox Series X|S

Ubisoft 3D Team lead programmer, Stephanie Brenham, has confirmed that Far Cry 6 will not feature ray tracing on Xbox Series X|S consoles, with the game instead offering 4K/60fps and enhanced visuals. Only the PC version of the game will support ray tracing and AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution. The news comes via an interview with Wccftech (thanks, VG247), where Brenham discussed the team prioritising Far Cry 6 hitting 4K/60fps by taking advantage of the latest consoles’ hardware. This, unfortunately, means that ray tracing won’t feature on the console versions of the game, as well as AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution. The latter comes as no surprise due to the tech only being added to the Xbox GDK in June as a preview. Although the two features will only be making an appearance on PC, Xbox Series X|S owners can still look forward to higher levels of detail, longer draw distances, and better HD textures over previous console generations. “Ray tracing is a PC only feature,” Brenham told Wccftech. “On console, our objective has been to take advantage of new hardware capabilities, optimizing performance targeting 4K and achieving 60 FPS, for instance, all while ensuring new game features, like our dynamic weather system, are supported on all platforms.”Ubisoft also clarified Brenham’s statement over on TechRadar, noting that the reasoning behind the loss of ray tracing was partly down to the team wanting to ensure that “the experience on the previous generation of console would remain consistent.”Are you looking forward to exploring Yara when Far Cry 6 launches next month?
