The Tundra Esports TI12 Documentary Opens the Lid on the Team’s Underwhelming Campaign
The TI 2023 documentary of the team, which dropped on YouTube on November 1, provided fans with an exclusive peek behind the scenes as the team tackled the challenges of the group stage. As the narrative progressed, however, a feeling of uncertainty emerged, with Jingjun “Sneyking” Wu and Kurtis “Aui_2000” Ling sharing insights into Tundra’s difficulties.
“After our loss to Entity, the future is uncertain for us,” Aui revealed. “No one knows if there will be a reshuffle or if people will keep playing together like this.”
There were rumors that the contracts of Tundra’s TI-winning rosters were set to expire after TI 2023. This could account for the uncertainty conveyed in the documentary. In an interview with Dot Esports, Nine mentioned that Tundra’s signing of Topson might not extend beyond Dota 2’s TI 2023, as the team concentrated on the current situation and the upcoming competition.
Nine’s remarks also suggested that the team may have short-term contracts in place. If that’s true, the team needs to first determine if they want to stay together before finalizing a deal with Tundra or considering a new organization.
Sneyking pointed out that Tundra faced difficulties in finding the perfect mix of “the patch, teamwork, synergy, and individual gameplay.” The captain, a former TI winner, believed that to claim the Aegis of Champions, a team needed to excel in all four areas, and Tundra did not tick any of the boxes.
Tundra’s coach, Aui_2000, characterized the team’s performance as substandard, which he attributed to the players not being in their peak mental condition.
