ESTNN compiles storyline beats, theories and leaks ahead of Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 2.
Mystery is a word that comes to mind when pondering what Epic Games has planned for Fortnite’s next season. Teasers have been nonexistent, and even leaks have been held to a bare minimum. It’s almost as if there won’t be a Chapter 3 Season 2. However, that’s part of the creative genius involved in Epic’s process.
Chapter 3 Season 1 had all the anticipation, and the developers let everyone in on the secret. This time that is not the case. Epic has remained radio silent despite fans expecting the next season in two days, apart from a few in-game elements. So, you might be wondering, what gives?
While we don’t have any concrete details to reference, there have been a few leaks here and there to indicate what might be on the horizon. Let’s expand on those and paint a picture of what lies ahead.
Covert Cavern & IO Drilling Sites
The Imagine Order did not dissipate following the Island Flip. In fact, they’ve come on strong to end Chapter 3 Season 2. There’s an abundance of IO Guards located at Covert Cavern alongside their fearless leader Gunnar. Like The Grotto, Covert Cavern is a not-so-secret base embedded deep in the mountains near Camp Cuddle. Its purpose isn’t clear, but we can expect storyline elements to play a factor in the next season.

Also, we cannot ignore the number of IO Drilling Sites that have surfaced more and more as the season has progressed. The FortTracker Twitter account is a helpful resource in this regard. Those running this account have documented all the major drill points since they appeared. As you can see in the tweet above, most active drilling locations are in the southwestern area. Contrarily, the inactive sites are in the north and northwestern sections.
Much of the lore of Chapter 3 Season 1 has revolved around Jonesy testing seismographs and unexplained activity from the Island’s core. We can expect more of the same from the storyline as we move into Season 2. It’s worth mentioning that Tilted Towers and Covert Cavern seem to be at the epicenter. Could that mean one or both won’t make it to next season?
What About The Foundation, Agent Jones & Slone?
Last we left The Foundation, Jonesy and Slone; the three fought during the island flip. On the other side, the Foundation came out as a non-player character (NPC)—patrolling Sanctuary with a statue built in his honor. Let’s not forget that fellow members of The Seven — The Visitor and The Scientist — also became NPCs this season. We can expect more storyline development for The Seven, including an almost guaranteed debut of The Paradigm and perhaps even an appearance by the Sisters.
Agent Jones made it through the Island flip and became an NPC like The Foundation. He remains the main character, and many of Season 1’s Quests included narration by the character. Jones and The Foundation spoke of “Genō” during the Chapter 2 Finale. This character remains a mystery to this day. We might learn more soon.
Doctor Slone’s fate following “The End” remains unclear. She was last seen trying to thwart The Foundation’s attempt to save Agent Jones. Since then, Slone has appeared in Chapter 3 Season 1. We can be almost sure that someone is calling the shots for the Imagine Order. Is it Doctor Slone? Hopefully, we’ll have an answer in a few days.

Thanks to Fortnite leaker HYPEX, we have a detailed list of elements that might appear in Chapter 3 Season 2. He tweeted a list of content in the works earlier this month. Some of those include a tactical sprint mechanic, Mythics, healing items and weapons. Keep in mind these are rumors based on game files. Not everything above is confirmed for next season.
Choppas to Return Soon?
I really think we could get the Choppa back soon.. There are two things that strongly suggest it:
– The “Naomi Osaka” trailer showed an unknown version of the Choppa with a new design
– The Choppa was actually updated in the files in DecemberIt would be so cool for Season 2 🔥 pic.twitter.com/fm82DGSyFg

Another Fortnite leaker — ShiinaBR — believes that Choppas might return next season. This vehicle only appeared in Chapter 2 Season 2 more than two years ago. It would be fitting to see Fortnite’s helicopter return seven seasons later. ShiinaBR pointed out that the Naomi Osaka Icon Series reveal featured Choppas, so it’s certainly plausible.
Will Tilted Towers Withstand the Transition?
Fortnite fans, both old and new, felt nothing but joy when Tilted Towers finally returned after several years. Entire lobbies landed here to feel the nostalgia and revisit peak Fortnite when it was on top of the gaming world. However, as we know, all good things must come to an end. Sinkholes are becoming more frequent in Tilted’s surrounding areas.
Given the impending battle between The Seven and Imagined Order, what better venue than Tilted Towers? This is more of a theory than anything else, but Epic could undoubtedly work the popular location into a plot point; they did the same in Chapter 1 Season 8.
Ultimately, only Epic Games knows what is on the horizon. Be sure to watch all of Fortnite’s social media accounts in the coming days. Until then, make sure you complete the Chapter 3 Season 1 Battle Pass and spend all of your gold before it’s too late.
